'I have no idea who you are': Cara Delevingne strikes back at Richard Madden after he brands her 'unprofessional' over infamously awkward interview

She is hardly one to take an insult lying down.

And Cara Delevingne has already hit back at Game Of Thrones star Richard Madden after her branded her 'unprofessional' over an infamously awkward interview she appeared in earlier this year.

The Scottish actor clearly struck a raw nerve when he said said the 23-year-old model turned actress had 'showed her age' and came across as being 'ungrateful' during tense run-in with the hosts of on Good Day Sacramento.

The fuming clothehorse sent an angry message to his Twitter page, saying: 'I have no idea who you are but I think it's little desperate for a grown man to be bad mouthing someone they don't know.'

And she was not finished there, as soon after Cara said: 'If you really want attention that badly, try focusing on your own work and not other people's.'

The Cinderella actor later seemed to backtrack on his original comments, insisting his words were taken out of context.

Writing on his Twitter page, he said: 'Hi @caradelevingne, nothing but respect for you. Misquoted and blown out of proportion.'

The storm hit after it emerged this year that, while promoting her first major role in a movie, Cara gave a very awkward interview while live on Good Day Sacramento.

After the clip of the chat went viral she tried to defend herself and received a lot of support for how she handled the unfortunate turn of events.

But this clearly did not impress Richard, who was disgusted by her 'unprofessional' behaviour, who added she should learn be polite as it's all part of the job.

Giving his thoughts of the way he believes Cara came across after the interview, Richard told Style magazine: 'It was unprofessional'.

The hunk, who starred as Prince Charming in the live action version of Cinderella this summer, also said that Delevingne came across as 'ungrateful'.

He continued: 'It made her seem ungrateful. She showed her age. For Cinderella I did six weeks of those interviews, where you get asked the same eight questions.'

Richard added that if Cara can't exercise good manners then perhaps acting isn't for her, the 29-year-old concluded: 'If you're not capable of doing that gracefully, then don't do it.'

Cara had to endure a painfully awkward interview in July while promoting her lead role in new movie Paper Towns and the footage quickly went viral.

Following the bizarre chat with Good Day Sacramento, Delevingne explained that when she's accused of not working hard she gets defensive.

The 23-year-old has admitted to KISS FM last month that she's learned to accept the attention that comes with fame, but will still defend misconceptions about her work ethic.

In July Cara appeared on the US morning show to promote her latest film, the adaptation of John Green's popular novel Paper Towns.

Despite being tired after the final premiere for her film the night before, which topped off a hectic month of promo, Cara soldiered on at first, playfully responding to a series of pretty patronising questions.

However, the anchors were not impressed with her sarcasm and eventually called her out, cutting the interview short and even going so far as to suggest she 'take a little nap, maybe get a Red Bull.'

In the interview with KISS FM, the top model explained that she just wants to be taken seriously as her acting career blossoms.

'People say I don't work hard, or that all of this has come very easy, and that I haven't had to work for it,' she said.

'That's not true at all. Erm, that's the worst, I hate that one. Because I pride myself on how hard I work, so it sucks when people say that kind of thing'.

As for the attention surrounding her personal life, including her relationship with singer girlfriend St. Vincent, Cara admitted it's been an adjustment getting used to the spotlight.

'I've definitely learned to accept it more. I used to get far more aggressive, and very angry,' she confessed.

'Not that I don't still sometimes, but it comes with the job and I wouldn't change what I do for anything. So you kind of have to just swallow it.'

In the days after the awkward interview with Good Day Sacramento aired, Cara insisted that she was not 'in a mood', as the anchors claimed after the on-air chat, but rather they simply didn't understand her jokes.

'Some people just don't understand sarcasm or the British sense of humour,' Cara tweeted in a clear response to the hard-to-watch interview.

Zach Braff was quick to reply in support of Cara, tweeting: 'Or how it's condescending to ask an actress if she's read the book.'

Meanwhile Boy George chimed in to say that he for one does understand sarcasm.

Not everyone was so supportive however, and Cara shared a post from Days Of Our Lives actress Chrishell Stause, who told her to 'be grateful' and suggested people 'let her be herself and hand her the rope'.

The interview with Good Day Sacramento began with one of the bumbling anchors introducing the model as 'Carla,' foreboding the painfully awkward three minutes to follow.

She seemed immediately thrown off following that misstep, and appeared to plaster on a fake smile as she greeted the anchors, who then asked if she was 'too busy' to read Paper Towns prior to taking on the role.

'Uh, no I never read the book, or the script. I kind of winged it,' Cara quipped, before giving her actual answer to their question.

She went on to reveal that she had of course read the book, gushing about how 'amazing' she thought it was.

'John Green is an incredible author, so really if you haven't read his books, you should,' Cara added in the cringe-worthy interview, which aired the morning after the New York premiere on July 21.

It only got worse as the news anchors wondered if Cara functioned better in the chaos of her busy life, meaning maybe she finds it easier to focus when her IMDb page is chock full.

The blonde beauty scoffed at this suggestion, immediately shooting it down with: 'No, I don't know where that comes from. No.'

However, she admitted that while it is 'crazy,' it's 'not that hard' because she's working at something she's wanted since she was a little girl.

'I'm living my dream,' she laughed to herself, while the anchors had already begun talking among themselves about their next questions.

It was not surprising then, after she had been cut off in finishing her answer to the previous question, when Cara was less than impressed with the inquiry regarding her character Margo.

'Do you have anything in common with her [Margo]?' Cara was asked, to which she joked: 'No, I actually hate her.'

Afterwards she admitted that she had connected to the character because in reading the script she came across lines that she herself had said before, amid other 'weird coincidences like that.'

After that response, a third anchor jumped in and called Cara out on her attitude, noting that she had sounded 'more excited' in previous interviews.

'Are you just exhausted?' he asked a surprised Cara, who seemed a bit taken off-guard by the question.

'The premiere was last night. It was a very emotional night, felt like the end of an era,' she said, adding: 'But I'm not any less excited than I was a couple of weeks ago.'

Cara tried to play it off, also reminding the anchors that she could have had a bit more energy before as 'it is the morning.'

Shocked: Cara seemed genuinely surprised by the call out, and tried to play it off and continue with the interview, ensuring everyone she was still excited about Paper Towns, but it was just early in the day

Couldn't let it go: However, the anchors pressed the issue, calling the actress 'a bit irritated,' and suggested they end the interview so she could 'go take a little nap, maybe get a Red Bull'

However, they simply would not let it go, with another anchor noting that the actress seemed 'a bit irritated,' before adding: 'perhaps it's just us.'

At that, Cara quipped: 'Yeah, yeah, I think it's just you,' and the anchors proceeded to cut the interview short.

'We'll let you go take a little nap, maybe get a Red Bull, how about that?' one anchor suggested, as the other two laughed.

Cara, however, was not pleased with their ribbing, as she could be heard quietly saying 'Too far,' before her video feed cut out.

'She was in a mood!' one of the anchors shouted as soon as the star was out of sight, as all three discussed her appearance.

Another remarked: 'But still - you make five million dollars for six weeks worth of work, you can pretend to talk to Good Day Sacramento with some umph!'

They proceeded to make fun of the star, even putting on a British accent to mock how cheerful they believe she had been in previous interviews.

Not having it: One anchor blasted Cara when he believed she wasn't 'excited' enough, later noting: 'you make five million dollars for six weeks worth of work, you can pretend to talk to Good Day Sacramento with some umph!'

The uncomfortable interview comes as quite a surprise, because while Cara is somewhat new to acting - she'll next be starring alongside Jared Leto, Will Smith, and Margot Robbie in 2016's Suicide Squad - she's one of the most in-demand fashion models of the moment.

She's spent the last four years modeling for brands such as Burberry, Chanel, DKNY, and Top Shop, and appearing on the covers of magazines, so she's certainly familiar with the process.

The quick-witted star - who is currently dating indie-songstress St Vincent - is known for her wry, and sometimes silly sense of humor, which the news team likely had just not prepared for.

In Paper Towns, Cara played the mysterious Margo, who also happens to be the object of Quentin's (Nat Wolff) affection.

The film - penned by The Fault In Our Stars writer John Green - sees a young man called Quentin and his friends head out on the road trip of their lives to find the missing girl from next door.

Directed by Jake Schreier, the film received strong critical approval became a summer must-see when it hit cinemas in the UK on August 17.
