Vieira a doubt for United clash

Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira could miss Sunday's Premiership clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Vieira sustained an ankle injury against Aston Villa last weekend and was unable to travel for tomorrow's Champions League tie away to Panathinaikos.

To make matters worse, however, the French midfielder could also miss the game at Old Trafford, where he was sent off so controversially last season.

Injury scan

Manager Arsene Wenger revealed: "Patrick had a scan yesterday and it looks much better than expected but it still looks like he will be short for Sunday.

"He is not definitely out but I would rule him as having only an 80% chance of playing. Gilberto Silva is 100% out with a back injury."

Fredrik Ljungberg is at least back in contention for tomorrow's tie at Panathinaikos.

Ljungberg missed last Saturday's win against Villa with a hamstring injury but was included in the squad which flew out to Greece today.

With Gilberto also absent, teenager Cesc Fabregas is therefore set to partner Edu, who was still recovering from international duty last weekend, in central midfield.

Gael Clichy (ankle) and Manuel Almunia (shin) are also injured, while Dennis Bergkamp did not make the trip due to his aversion to flying, meaning that Jose Reyes should move back up front.
