Hawaii is on alert after a tsunami warning was issued following a powerful 8.3 magnitude earthquake struck Chile. The huge earthquake made buildings sway in Chile's capital Santiago, where terrified residents were seen gathering in streets to avoid falling debris. Fifteen-foot waves are reported to have struck the Chilean shore, flooding towns as people fled to higher ground. The Chilean government has confirmed the death of a 25-year-old woman, who was crushed by a falling wall. At least 20 more people have been injured.

Carly Fiorina began last night's debate holding back on the throttle. Goaded into criticizing nemesis Donald Trump's temperament she said it's a 'long race' and moved on. But when moderator Jake Tapper asked her about a profile released last week in which the real estate mogul seemingly made fun of her face - though he said afterward he was talking about her 'persona' - Fiorina put her foot on the gas. Playing off a slap Trump had just taken at Bush on women's issues, she said, 'Mr. Trump said that he heard Mr. Bush very clearly, and what Mr. Bush said. I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.'

Hillary Clinton has been working hard to show her softer side these past few weeks, and now the presidential hopeful is showing she also has a sense of humor. Ahmed Mohamed, 14, the Texas high school student from who was arrested for bringing a clock into class has said he will go to the White House to meet Barack Obama after the President invited him. Ahmed drew messages of support from around the globe today after images of him being led away from MacArthur High School, in Irving, went viral. Ahmed said he had created a digital clock and brought it into school to impress his engineering teacher, but after another teacher mistook it for a bomb he was taken away by police.

The specialist crosschecked his DNA in databases. Kyle is now preparing to reconnect with his family in Indiana, where he is from.

A doting dad captured some truly heart-warming footage of the sweetest reaction you are ever likely to see when he collected his baby daughter from her play school in Texas for the first time. Since being posted to YouTube the video has been viewed nearly two million times. Opening her mouth as wide as it can go, the youngster screams in excitement and begins running towards her father. She makes it to the door and shouts 'dada' while reaching upwards with her hands, as if desperate to escape play school for the day.

American Idol star Constantine Maroulis has appeared in court after a second arrest over his turbulent break-up with ex-girlfriend Angel Reed. The singer was detained in August for allegedly breaching a restraining order held against him after Reed, the mother of his four-year-old daughter, complained that he had emailed her. However, when they appeared before a judge at Wyckoff Municipal Courthouse in Wyckoff, New Jersey, Reed's lawyer said she would like to dismiss the charges in the interest of both parties.

Kenny, Kelsey, Natalie, Brandon, Alexis, Nathan and Joel McCaughey - the world's first septuplets to survive infancy -  will mark the milestone occasion at their home in Carlisle, Iowa. The septuplets were not expected to live past for their first few days after being born nine weeks premature on November 19, 1997, but went on to be healthy and happy (inset). 'The (years) have flown by,' mom Bobbi McCaughey told TODAY in a special interview on Wednesday. 'Just because there's been so many things that have happened. The memories, the joy, the heartaches that happened. It's what has guided us to where we are today, and it's very special.'

Malinda Lugin, 36, is charged with persuading doctors to perform invasive medical procedures on her daughter. New Jersey prosecutors said in June the abuse began before the girl was even born, though they declined to give further details. Prosecutors said Lugin 'convinced doctors' that L.L. 'was ill and needed procedures that were deemed unnecessary'.

Ohio police officer Jon Habig was praised by Hamilton Police Department on Twitter after stopping to save a ginger kitten while out on patrol last week. Mr Habig was forced to call in help from city workers in order to remove the drain cover before taking the kitten out in a towel. It should have been the happiest day of Amber McCullough's life (pictured while pregnant, left) after she gave birth to two baby girls Hannah and Olivia at a Colorado hospital last month. But the moment of joy was snatched away as medics told her that one of the conjoined twins, who were attached at the chest, abdomen and pelvis (pictured in a pregnancy scan, inset) was unlikely to survive. Sadly, Olivia died after surgery to separate the girls, while Hannah was left fighting for her life in a special ventilator in hospital. But now, 16 days after the operation, McCullough has finally been able to hold her surviving daughter for the first time (right).

A daredevil has conquered the highest tightrope walk in the Southern Hemisphere by crossing between two peaks 300 metres above morning commuters. The death-defying stunt took place at Melbourne's Eureka Tower as Kane Petersen (pictured right) crossed 21 metres on the north-western side of the tower - with no safety net and a deadly drop. The 36-year-old managed to lie down (pictured left) and take in the view while performing the stunt.
