Spain's 43-year-old Queen Letizia ended her first day in the U.S with a glamorous soiree at on Capitol Hill alongside senators Tim Caine and John Barrasso and her husband, King Felipe, 47.

The perennially chic Letizia chose to give a sartorial nod to her hosts courtesy of a sparkling $3,085 Nina Ricci number, a U.S designer also loved by Michelle Obama, that showed off her slender shoulders and helped showcase her dangling diamond chandelier earrings.

Earlier, the Spanish royal couple had been given a formal welcome at the White House by the Obamas, with Mrs Obama giving Letizia a tour of her famous organic garden.

Both had come dressed for the occasion, with Letizia chic in the same white Hugo Boss jacket worn to meet President Francois Hollande of France in June, a print dress by Spanish designer Felipe Varela and her favorite white topaz Links of London Egg earrings.

Meanwhile Mrs Obama opted for a white windowpane print dress cut in her trademark fit and flared style, last worn to her Summit on Working Families last year, teamed with a pair of mid-heeled silver court shoes.

King Felipe was entertained in the Oval Office by President Obama and was seated in front of a bust of Martin Luther King during their discussion, which touched on issues common to both countries.

The meeting came on what is the first day of the Spanish royal couple's tour of the US, which began with a visit to Mount Vernon, the former home of President George Washington and his wife Martha, and continues with visits to Miami and St. Augustine in Florida

Speaking ahead of the Spanish royals' arrival, the White House said in a statement that the Spanish monarchs' visit 'reinforces the strong and enduring ties between the American and Spanish people.'

During their visit to Mount Vernon, the pair were given a tour of the grounds and laid a wreath at the tomb of George and Martha Washington at the first president's Virginia estate.

This week's royal tour is one of a series of high profile visits planned for the next few months, starting with Pope Francis who will tour the US later this month.

Get femme in a black-and-white floral dress like Queen Letizia

We, at Fashion Finder, love Queen Letizia's grown-up style. Never one to stray too far from center, her style is usually professional, befitting her royal duties, as well as feminine and elegant. We also admire her loyalty in supporting designers in her country, Spain.

For her first official visit to the U.S., Queen Letizia opted for a black-and-white floral dress that she topped with a tailored white blazer elegantly nipped in at the waist. And, yes, it is by fellow countryman and designer Felipe Varelo.

The fun bit is that, if you have almost $900 lying around, you can have this very dress. All you have to do is click right to buy online.

If that's a little too rich for your blood, see below. We've found some beautiful black-and-white floral alternatives starting at $69.

The Argentina-born Pope will start his trip on September 22 in Washington D.C and will visit the Obamas at the White House before holding masses at St. Matthews Cathedral and at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Pope Francis' tour will also include a tour of New York where he will attend a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly ahead of a service at the 9/11 Memorial.

His trip concludes in Philadelphia where he will hold further masses and visit the Festival of Families Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Pope Francis' visit will be followed by one from Britain's Prince Harry next month, with the 31-year-old royal due to officially launch next May's Invictus Games with an event in Washington D.C.

Harry, who entertained Mrs Obama at Kensington Palace in London during her summer visit to the British capital, is also expected to make a return visit to the White House, although details are yet to be confirmed by Palace officials.

The Spanish royals are also no stranger to the US, having previously visited last September when they attended a meeting of the UN General Assembly alongside King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.

Felipe and Letizia also made a recent visit to Mexico, where they were entertained by President Enrique Peña Nieto and his wife, First Lady Angelica Rivera.

Letizia also made a solo trip to central America in May and split her time in the region between Honduras and El Salvador, using both visits to emphasise Spanish aid efforts in the two countries.
