But Russell Brand and Laura Gallacher's relationship appeared to be going from strength to strength as they continued to enjoy a couple's break in Rome, Italy, on Saturday.

The comedian-turned-protester showered his on-off girlfriend - whose the sister of television personality Kirsty Gallacher - with affection as they took a stroll in the romantic Italian capital.

The pretty blonde displayed the true extent of her natural beauty as she opted to forgo make-up for the pair's low-key outing.

She wore her long blonde hair tied into a messy updo with a pair of sunglasses securing it off her face.

Russell, 40, was pictured holding Laura in an awkward embrace as he looked a little lost with what to do with his hand.

He uncomfortably grabbed her shoulder as she placed an affectionate arm around his back.

Comfort was evidently the self-imposed dress code with Russell sporting black jogging bottoms, a white motif T-shirt, bright blue Nike running trainers and a printed scarf which he fashioned into a pashmina.

Laura followed Russell's laid-back lead as she slipped on a pair of white skinny jeans which featured knee-rips and the skin-tight fabric highlighted her slender bottom-half.

She threw on a loose-fitting black spaghetti-strap top which exposed a glimpse of her white bra beneath it.

Laura ensured her choice of footwear adhered to the pair's joint monochrome colour theme as she stomped around in a pair of black and white Nike trainers.

The couple were pictured clambering into a parked vehicle with Laura taking the drivers' seat and a male passenger riding shotgun.

Russell - who was previously married to Katy Perry for just over a year - and Laura were first spotted getting close again at the end of last month when they were pictured together at Baltonsborough Village Show in Somerset.

Prior to reigniting the spark with his ex, the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actress dated heiress Jemima Khan on an on-off basis until September last year.

The self-confessed sex addict has previously thanked the editor-at-large for taming his womanising streak.

Russell may be a changed man after voluntarily quitting Twitter and declaring an end to his online YouTube series - Trews - last month.

A report in the Mail On Sunday suggests he's ready to sell his bachelor pad in trendy Hackney, London, to move to the middle class village of Aston, near Henley-on-Thames, to settle down with Laura.
