Emma Watson passionately kisses Daniel Brühl as they play lovers in war-torn Chile in dramatic new trailer for forthcoming thriller Colonia

She found fame as a fresh-faced child and Emma Watson is now truly earning her acting stripes in a series of serious roles.

The stunning Harry Potter actress took to Facebook on Monday to share the trailer for her new movie, Colonia a thriller which was first shown at the Toronto International Film Festival this week.

Emma puts on a convincing portrayal of Lena, a German woman who is forced to join a cult after her husband Daniel is kidnapped. 

Between a seriously dramatic performance, Emma sheds her clean-cut image for good as she passionately kisses her on-screen partner Daniel Brühl.

The film is directed by Oscar-winner Florian Gallenberger and is based on the true story of a German woman whose boyfriend was kidnapped by dictator Augusto Pinochet's secret police. 

Colonia sees Lena and Daniel become entangled in a Chilean military coup against Pinochet, before Daniel is abducted by the police force, National Intelligence Directorate (DINA). 

Determined Lena tracks her spouse down to Colonia Dignidad, a commune masquerading as a charitable mission, however does not release its residents become part of a cult after they enter.

The trailer opens with Emma speaking with a menacing man, who says: 'Doubts in your heart, turmoil in your soul, oh you think you made a mistake.

'That you shouldn't have come here, you regret, you regret deeply.'

While he delivers his monologue, clips are played showing Lena frolicking with Daniel in happier times.

The scene quickly contrasts, showing Emma dressed in an old-fashioned work uniform while looking painstakingly at a fellow cult inmate.

Words are emblazoned across the screen, reading: 'When they took her man... She swore to bring him back.' before a determined and convincing Emma says: 'I joined up to find you.'

Emma stars opposite Rush star Daniel Brühl, who plays her husband and the duo appear to have electric chemistry in the film.

Filming for the movie began in Luxenbourg last October and was later shot in Munich, Berlin and Buenos Aires. 

Global release dates are yet to be confirmed however the film is set to be aired in Germany in January 2016. 

As well as Colonia, Emma has a host of projects lined up, making her one of Hollywood's most sought after stars of 2016.

She is currently working on The Circle and Beauty And The Beast, which are due for release next year, while she has completed work on regression, which is due for release next month.
