For half her life, Kim Kardashian grew up with a stepfather named Bruce.

Now Bruce has transformed into Caitlyn and that's something that feels 'weird', she acknowledged Wednesday.

She first knew something was up when she stumbled across Jenner dressed as a woman when she was 21 but 'tuned it out' after he asked her to keep what she had seen a secret.

Caitlyn Jenner might have skipped the ESPY red carpet, but that doesn't take away her crown for best dressed.

'I never really thought he would one day transition—that was never discussed,' the reality star wrote in an essay posted on her new website on Wednesday.

'When I began seeing pictures of Bruce with his nails painted and those reports that he had his trachea shaved, I started to freak out,' she added.

Now, though, after seeing how Caitlyn has been accepted and supported, and after attending therapy with other family members to help understand Jenner's transition, Kim said she's 'really happy' and 'so proud' that her stepparent can share her story.

'Is it weird for me? Yes, this person has been my stepdad for half my life,' she admitted. 'But life is just about being happy – that's the one common denominator that everyone can understand. If you aren't able to be you, who can you be?'

The 34-year-old revealed that for years, she'd assumed the decathlon gold medalist was a cross-dresser and that when she stumbled across Jenner dressed as a woman, it wasn't a complete surprise.

In fact, Kim wrote, she finally made sense of conversations she'd overheard in which her father Robert Kardashian discussed rumors about the Olympian's penchant for wearing women's clothes.

'I thought my dad was jealous of my mom's new husband, that he was joking with his friends on the phone, but suddenly I knew it was all true,' Kim said.

She described how, when she was 30, she and her stepdad sat down to talk about what she had witnessed and that's when he explained that he felt trapped in the wrong body.

He told her he was going to therapy and that he wanted it to remain a secret, even going so far as to get his publicist to help him spike a story a reporter planned to write in the 1980s referencing the cross-dressing rumors.

In the essay, Kim referred to Jenner as 'he' when speaking about the pre-transition era and her memories of her stepfather from when she was younger.

She referred to Jenner as 'she' when talking about the present.

Coincidentally, Kim's writings come one day after Jenner officially requested a legal change of name and gender.

In the court documents filed Tuesday in Los Angeles, Jenner listed her new full name as Caitlyn Marie Jenner although the documents were signed Bruce Jenner.

The paperwork in Los Angeles County Superior Court seeks to change her name to Caitlyn Marie from Bruce and officially change her gender to female from male, the court spokeswoman said.

A judge must rule on the name and gender change request.

She asked the judge to keep sealed from the public medical and other information submitted as part of the application.

According to copies of the documents obtained by TMZ on Wednesday, the I Am Cait star argued that's necessary in order to protect her safety because while she's received lots of support, she has also received 'threats of bodily harm.'

Now the transition has become a fait accompli, Kim noted in her online post that her relationship with Jenner is stronger than ever.

She ended her essay, saying: 'After all, she asks me for style and glam tips all the time. What's more fun than that? LOL.'
