A Michigan couple are accused of keeping the woman's disabled brother confined to a filthy bed saturated with human waste and crawling with cockroaches in almost total isolation for up to seven years.

Andrew Green, 45, and his wife, 59-year-old Patsy Marshall, have been charged with unlawful imprisonment and first-degree vulnerable adult abuse involving the woman's bedridden older brother.

Mount Morris Township police said Marshall had power of attorney over her 62-year-old sibling, who was found in an insect-infested bed soaked with urine and feces.

Officers showed up at the couple's home in the 3000 block of Pine Hill Place to perform a welfare check September 8 after the victim's adult children who live out of state couldn't get a hold of him.

Lt. Matt Lasky said the children went to the home but were not allowed inside and smelled a foul odor, so they called police.

Police said the elderly man, who was badly injured years earlier while working at General Motors, was not getting the medical care he required.

During the investigation, it emerged that the victim had not left the room for as long as seven years, not even to use the bathroom or bathe.

The station WJRT reported that man was fed just one meal a day and had no contact with almost anyone in the house.

When officers entered his bedroom last week, the disabled man was mentally alert, telling them that 'he had a dream this week that somebody was going to come and save him,' according to MLive.com.

Mt Morris Township Police Chief Terrance Green said the victim repeatedly thanked the responding officers for saving his life.

The 62-year-old was taken to a hospital and later will be transferred to a senior care facility.

Police are now investigating whether Marshall and Green were also stealing taking money from the helpless victim.

A judge ordered Green held on $100,000 cash surety bond and his wife on $50,000. The couple are due in court for a probable cause hearing September 24.
