Who's the Boss! Lupita Nyong'o tears herself away from rehearsals as she joins Dylan Penn for a stylish turn at Jason Wu's NYFW women's wear show

Lupita Nyong'o is one busy lady right now, with just two weeks to go before her off-Broadway debut.

But the 32-year-old Academy Award-winning actress, who is set to tread the boards in civil war play Eclipse, stepped into her other favourite role on Wednesday - that of fashionista.

Lupita rubbed shoulders with the likes of Dylan Penn (Sean Penn and Robin Wright's daughter) at the Boss women's wear show held at New York Fashion Week.

Passion for fashion: Lupita Nyong'o tore herself away from rehearsals for an off-Broadway play to join the likes of Dylan Penn, right, at Jason Wu's New York Fashion Week show for the Boss women's wear collection

The actress looked lovely in an ensemble by the fashion brand's designer Jason Wu - a pleated white and silver dress.

'It's my first Jason/Boss dress. I was really looking forward to wearing something from the line,' Lupita told the New York Times at the event.

Despite her own monochromatic dress, the actress told the newspaper that she was most looking forward to seeing some colour on the catwalk.

Indeed, among the classic black and white offerings, Lupita got her wish, with blue and orange hues sashaying down the runway, adding a pop of colour to Wu's spring/summer 2016 collection.

Dylan, 24, meanwhile earned her fashion cred in a grey/white pencil skirt teamed with a black sleeveless top.

The show proved a nice break for Lupita, who is currently in rehearsals for Eclipsed; the off-Broadway play will preview on September 29 before its grand opening night on October 14.

Eclipsed, which was written by Walking Dead actress Danai Gurira, is set during the Second Liberian Civil War (between 1999 and 2003) and focuses on a group of women who are the wives - and prisoners - of a rebel officer.

Their already chaotic world is disturbed even more when a new woman arrives.

'Danai Gurira has written a brilliant play, ripped from the headlines, that looks at the terrible conflicts in post-colonial Africa with an eye that is both incisive and deeply compassionate,' artistic director Oskar Eustis explained after Lupita's role was announced.

This will mark the New York City debut of both Lupita and the play, which was previously performed in 2009 in Washington, D.C. and New Haven, Connecticut.
