Salt swaps: Cutting back on salt doesn’t mean you have to compromise on taste

  • Popcorn is a high-fibre snack
  • Some varieties have high levels of salt
  • Metcalfe’s Skinny Topcorn White Cheese flavour has a sixth of your RDA
  • Swap it for Propercorn Sour Cream and Pepper popcorn, saving 0.66g

Popcorn is high in fibre and a source of B vitamins, which help the body release energy from food, but some varieties can be salt traps. Metcalfe’s Skinny Topcorn White Cheese flavour heavily salted popcorn, with nearly 1g salt per 25g serving, a sixth of an adult’s daily allowance, compares with just 0.28g salt per 25g in the Propercorn Sour Cream and Pepper popcorn. By comparison, a 25g bag of Walkers Ready Salted crisps supplies 0.35g salt.

Salt saving per portion: 0.66g
