Supermodel Karlie Kloss set to earn £193 for EVERY STEP she takes down the London Fashion Week catwalk (but beginners to get a more modest £2.60)

  • American model Karlie Kloss, 23, is paid an average of £5,835 per show
  • 17-year-old rising star Molly Bair earned £1,700 for 48 presentations
  • Research conducted by Association of Accounting Technicians

Nineties supermodel Linda Evangelista famously declared that she wouldn't get out of bed for 'less than $10,000' - but how much do today's runway stars command per step?

American muse Karlie Kloss, 23, will earn £193 ($299) for every stride she takes down the London Fashion Week catwalk, according to new financial research. That amounts to £5,835 ($9,053) for a 30-step show walk.

However a rookie in the industry would earn a lot less. According to the study, conducted by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), 18 year-old Molly Bair, from Philadelphia, earned just £1,700 ($2,637) for walking in 48 shows so far this year, including Alexander McQueen and Chanel Couture.

The big money at this level, apparently, is all in the advertising campaigns, worth around £15,000 ($23,271) each - even for someone with under a year's experience.

Molly's unique look has secured her three commercial advertising gigs, which in total bring her earnings to £47,700 ($74,008).

‘The figures were based on calculating the average amount a beginner model, an established model and a supermodel earns to walk runway divided by the length of a 30-metre catwalk,’ an AAT spokesman said.

‘However, once their annual salaries from the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter 2015 fashion shows and advertising campaigns are combined, the gap between model status and pay cheque becomes even more apparent.’

At the middle of the scale, Lexi Boling, 20, who has been modelling for two years, walked over five times more shows than Karlie but only earned a fifth of her pay-cheque.

Although the American-born starlet currently ranks in the top 50 by models.com and has walked 117 shows this year, Lexi cashed in a mere £16,000 ($24,823).

However, the exposure gained from walking so many shows as well as featuring on several Vogue magazine covers resulted in her securing ten lucrative advertising campaigns, generating revenue of £1.1m ($1,706,705).

So gaining ‘super’ status really is everything.

As one of the most sought-after catwalk models and a former Victoria’s Secret Angel, Karlie earned a whopping £81,000 ($125,667) from walking 22 shows during the 2015.

With eight years’ experience in the bag, Taylor Swift's pal is also the face of some of the most prestigious fashion houses in the world, earning her £1.8m ($2,792,790) this year alone. Her net worth is estimated to be around £2.5m ($3,878,625).

Meanwhile, Canadian model Linda Evangelista coined one of the most famous phrases in the fashion world in 1990s after telling Vogue that she and her cohorts - Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Christy Turlington - 'don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day'.

The comment - once described as the 'Let them eat cake' of the twentieth century - triggered a backlash against the supers.

Revealing how she hasn't be able to live down the claim the 50-year-old recently said: 'I feel like those words are going to be engraved on my tombstone.'
