Marchesa targets fashion's high-flyers as it presents fluffy, feathered designs inspired by caged birds at New York Fashion Week
Fashionistas of a feather flocked together at Marchesa's Spring/Summer 2016 runway show, which featured a collection that designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig described as 'a botanical menagerie of caged birds and cascading florals placed under a cascading midnight sky'.
Swathed in ethereal layers of tulle, fluttering floral appliques, and intricately-sewn beading, the models may not have literally flown down the runway, but they did glide quite elegantly.
Perhaps the most jaw-dropping confections, though, included 'hand-dipped dyed ombré tulle and organza' skirts with ruffled trains that would be at home in any princess fantasy. Other standout numbers featured embellished bird-shaped embroidery, see-through lace, and cage netting.
Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig were inspired by 'caged birds' for their Spring/Summer 2016 colelction, which was presented at New York City's ritzy St. Regis hotel
They invited viewers to enter their 'garden', which included floral embellishments and glitzy, embroidered birds on beautiful tulle and organza gowns
A few head-turning pieces featured voluminous ruffled skirts in cascading pastel hues that sent the crowd into a picture-taking frenzy
In addition to layers of ombré ruffles, several dresses had feminine feather detailing
Uber-girly feathered skirts and sleeves were juxtaposed with sexy cage netting
One heavily-beaded deep blue gown in particular referenced the designers' idea that their collection represented a garden under a 'midnight sky'
Many of the designs used light colors, sheer fabrics, and airy embellishments
Expert layering of pretty pastel fabric created an almost iridescent quality in the fairytale-esque show
Each of the models wore her hair pulled back and parted in the center, with a swipe of girly pink lipstick on her pout
Standing out among the light golds, sky blues, and blush pinks were pops of fuchsia and black
The romantic collection also spotlighted Marchesa's new line of shoes, many of which included laser-cut detailing and minimalist straps
