'I would do it all over again': Amber Frey on her role as star witness against her lover Scott Peterson ten years after he was convicted of murdering pregnant wife Laci

  • Frey, 40, a single mother of two and masseuse, emerged as star witness against Scott Peterson in his 2003 trial
  • Peterson was convicted of murdering his wife and unborn baby in December 2002
  • Frey began dating Peterson around the time of the killings; she later said she didn't know he was married
  • Frey told Matt Lauer on Today Show that all these years later, she is 'still very recognizable' on the street

Amber Frey, the star witness for the prosecution in the case against notorious California wife killer Scott Peterson, says that 10 years after the high-profile trial, she has no regrets.

Peterson was convicted in 2003 of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son, Conner.

Frey, a massage therapist then in her late 20s, was dating Peterson around the time of the murders, which took place on Christmas Eve in 2002.

In interviews and press conferences at the time, Frey said she had no idea her boyfriend was married with a baby on the way.

It wasn't until April 2003 that Peterson was arrested in connection to Laci's murder after the butchered parts of the expectant mother and her unborn son's bodies washed up on the San Francisco Bay shoreline.

Perhaps most jarring was the fact that when Peterson was arrested, he had changed his entire look and was found driving a car packed with knives, a shovel and directions to Frey's workplace - suggesting that she might be his next target.

Frey fully cooperated with the investigation and was credited with ultimately helping prosecutors bring Peterson to justice.

I don't regret anything. I would do it all over again because it wasn’t about me - there was a missing woman carrying a child.

More than a decade after the double murder, Frey sat down with Today Show host Matt Lauer Friday to talk about the case and her life since the guilty verdict.

Frey, 40, stills works as a masseuse and has two children, ages 14 and 11.

She says that despite the passage of time, she is 'still very recognizable' on the street.

'It's not really ever gone away in that sense, that recognition,’ she told Lauer. ‘Very proud mother of my two children, doing great. They love their mother. It's been a road. It's been a journey.’

Asked about her feelings for Peterson, Frey said that any romantic attachment she may have had for him had evaporated even before the trial got under way.

The 40-year-old single mother of two also said that Peterson has made no attempt to reach out to her from prison in all those years.

Reflecting on her involvement in the courtroom drama, which for Peterson resulted in a one-way ticket to California’s death row, Frey says she has no regrets.

‘I don't regret anything,’ she said. ‘I would do it all over again because it wasn’t about me - there was a missing woman carrying a child.’

Frey's attorney Gloria Allred, who was present during the Today show interview, told Matt Lauer of her long-time client: 'she's the hero of the case, as far as I'm concerned.'

Peterson, who was sentenced to death in 2004, is appealing his conviction.

There are 725 inmates on Death Row and no prisoner has been executed in California since January 2006. Lawsuits in federal and state courts have temporarily halted executions.
