Manchester City were left sweating on a knee injury to Sergio Aguero after the 1-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Aguero was scythed by a vicious challenge from Palace defender Scott Dann, who had just been spun by the Argentina forward, 25 minutes into the encounter.

Aguero appeared in huge discomfort upon hitting the ground and was swiftly replaced by Kevin De Bruyne.

But the striker managed to hobble off and took a seat on the substitute's bench where an ice pack was placed on his right knee, his teeth gritted in pain.

Aguero took to Twitter to appease fans' concerns after the match, which City won thanks to a goal in the last minute from 18-year-old substitute Kelechi Iheanacho.

'Thanks everyone for your concern,' Aguero wrote. 'I got a hard hit and it prevented me from playing more. It doesn't seem to be a serious injury though.'

A potential spell on the sidelines for Aguero would be a huge blow for City, with Manuel Pellegrini forced to start the game without David Silva and Raheem Sterling.

An ankle problem saw Spain international Silva miss the trip to Palace while Sterling was absent with a hamstring problem. It is unknown how long they will both be out for.

City will fear they could be without the trio for their first Champions League game of the season at home against last year's runners-up in the competition, Juventus, on Tuesday.

For all City's domestic success in recent seasons, they are yet to make their mark on the continent in Europe's elite club competition. A good run in the competition this season is imperative.

The three-pronged attack of Silva, Sterling and Aguero has resulted in some slick attacking play from City and their fitness will be key to City's success in Europe this season.
