Southern Charm stars Kathryn Dennis and Thomas Ravenel are expecting their second baby - despite not being a couple any more.

The disgraced politician, 53, and his ex-girlfriend, 24, said she fell pregnant during a 'whirlwind weekend of romance'. They are already parents to an 18-month-old girl.

Their new baby, a boy, is due in December.

Dennis said of her latest pregnancy: 'I was surprised. Thomas and I are always on and off, but we had a whirlwind romance that weekend.

'That's kind of how we were with the first pregnancy, too. Things were wishy-washy but we embraced it.'

Speaking with People, Dennis said she and Ravenel are just friends, but she was delighted to be having another baby - especially for daughter Kensington (known as Kensie).

'I'm happy Kensie will have a friend to play with. It's nice that they will be so close in age,' she said.

Ravenel seemed just as excited, saying; 'The greatest gift thus far in my life has been the privilege of being a father to my daughter Kensie.

'Now, with a son on the way, I feel doubly blessed. My cup runneth over.'

He said things were 'pleasant' with Dennis - although that is not the way they were just a few months ago when the former couple appeared on the reunion special for their Bravo reality show.

The two were at constant odds - with Dennis screaming at Thomas for having 'multiple' affairs while they were together.

Ravenel also accused her of having sex with a woman - and getting them kicked out of hotels on multiple occasions for her behavior.

Meanwhile, Dennis screamed at Ravenel for kissing another woman, saying she only found out when she saw a photo of the smooch on DailyMail.com.

At the time of the show, Dennis was pregnant with Ravenel's second child.

It is not known if they knew of the pregnancy at the time, but by the time the reunion aired on June 1, Dennis shared a photo of her and Ravenel watching the show together.

'Surprise! Reunited and watching the #SouthernCharm reunion together,' wrote Dennis on Twitter along with the picture.

Millionaire Ravenel, whose father is the former congressman Arthur Ravenel Jr., had a failed bid for the US Senate last year.

He ran against Lindsay Graham but ended up third. The Senate bid was an attempt to re-start his political career following his spectacular fall from favor in 2007 when he was State Treasurer and arrested on drugs offenses.

He was later jailed for 10 months.

A court heard he began taking drugs aged 18 and was seen using cocaine at numerous parties held in the Charleston area. One of his sisters called him 'the golden boy that so suddenly fell from grace'.

His political aspirations were dealt a second devastating blow last October when he was accused of assaulting Dennis's hairdresser at his home in downtown Charleston.

Lauren Mosser claimed Ravenel slammed a door in her face causing her to fall down.

She said he also fell into a swimming pool while holding his and Dennis's daughter, who was then six months old.

Police investigated the allegations but found no evidence to bring charges.

In the fallout, Ravenel publicly dumped Dennis in a Facebook rant, saying she failed to take his side and help clear his name.

Rather than talk to police about the incident, he said she'd continued to film their television series on Jekyll Island - something that did indeed play out on the program when it aired earlier this year.

In the post Ravenel said: 'I pleaded with Kathryn to leave the Bravo shoot in Jekyll Island.

'They had even packed her bags and lined up a driver. She told me she was coming to clear my name but then she backed out at the last second and delayed telling the truth by a day and a half.'

Ravenel said his girlfriend's decision cost him $900,000 of campaign money for his Senate bid.

Hours later he deleted the post and they patched things up.

However, things only seemed to get worse, as was evident for viewers of the show's second season.

This new pregnancy may not play out on TV however, as Ravenel wrote on Twitter; 'I am not doing season three. However I did do a couple shoots. Just can't tolerate their duplicity.'
