Taylor Swift, the leader of the Balmain Army and the man taking on Big Mayo... The winners of the first Daily Mail-Perrier Hot List revealed

  • Kim Kardashian, Chrissy Teigen and Michelle Obama all feature in the inaugural Daily Mail-Perrier Hot List
  • We worked out which names generated the most articles and views in the US over the past year
  • Our panel of judges then ranked a top five for each of the five categories - fashion, music, TV/film, food, and wellness

From Kim Kardashian's latest Instagram post to the newest food hybrid, the Dailymail.com homepage has long been a barometer of popularity and influence.

But who has been leading the agenda in 2015? We trawled the site to work out which names generated the most articles and views from our US readers over the past year. We then recruited a team of tastemakers to judge which names should top the list.

Here, we present the results: 25 names across five categories - chosen by you, the readers, and ranked by our judges...

FASHION

1. Olivier Rousteing

The undisputed winner in the fashion category. In his five years as the creative director of Balmain, Olivier Rousteing, 30, has dramatically boosted revenue for the French fashion house with collections that redefine power-dressing and celebrate the female form. It doesn't hurt that he has recruited an army of celebrity ambassadors including Kim Kardashian, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Rihanna.

Nina Tsang, Editorial Director for Celebrity and Fashion at Centaur Marketing, describes Rousteing as an 'alpha connector'.

'His Pied Piper approach has attracted lots of publicity for the brand, but he knows how to wield social media power which makes him powerful in fashion today,' she explains.

'He's got over a million Instagram followers and is about to unveil the Balmain/H&M collection, bringing his couture look to the masses. One to watch in the long term.'

Charlie Lankston, Dailymail.com Femail Editor, adds: 'He is, quite simply, the designer name that is on everybody's lips and I don't see that changing any time soon.'

2.  Gigi Hadid

You don't need to work in fashion to have noticed the impact that Gigi Hadid has had. The 20-year-old model is a significantly bigger power player than the average reality star offspring (her mother is Real Housewife of Beverly Hills Yolanda Foster), having signed with top model agency IMG in 2011. Since then, she has appeared in Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue and modeled for lingerie label Victoria's Secret.

Fittingly, Gigi shares the second spot on the fashion list with none other than best friend and fellow fashion model Kendall Jenner.

'She's taken every major campaign, from High Street to designer, and has a very strong work ethic, says fashion expert and TV personality Louise Roe.

'She's a positive role model, and has created a girl gang of fashion icons including Kendall Jenner, Taylor Swift and Victoria' s Secret models.'

2.  Kendall Jenner

Just when you thought Kim had taken the title of most famous Kardashian-Jenner sibling, along came Kendall, who has tied with fellow model Gigi in second place. The in-demand supermodel, 19, hit the genetic jackpot with her father's height and lean build and her mother's exotic beauty. That package has helped her carve a successful career that is independent of her family's fame.

'This has been a strong year for [Kendall], breaking boundaries with several lucrative endorsements including a beauty contract with Estée Lauder,' says fashion judge Nina Tsang.

'When fashion brands select ambassadors, they are making an investment in talent that can represent their brands for the long term. Kendall looks the part, is controversy-free, has a strong work ethic and possesses great social media power.

'She's already usurped big sister Kim with the most liked photo on Instagram this year - this girl knows how to play things out in the long run.'

4. Kim Kardashian-West

No fashion influencer ranking could exclude Kim Kardashian, especially one compiled by Dailymail.com.

'Everything she wears is NEWS,' says Paper magazine Editorial Director Mickey Boardman. 'People love it or hate it but they all have a very strong opinion on it.'

Indeed, the 34-year-old reality star-turned-pop culture icon rarely plays it safe, taking sartorial risks that put her front and center of the fashion conversation. Nor has she molded her body into the industry's beloved skinny silhouette (though we know she is dedicated to tough daily workouts). Her fame and influence prove that fashion and curves are not mutually exclusive, almost single-handedly changing fashion's physical ideal.

5.  Ashley Graham

Ashley Graham has been making plenty of headlines over the past year, and she has used this platform to position herself as an intelligent ambassador for positive body image.

In February she became the first plus-size model to appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue (by way of a Swimsuits for All advertisement), and she spearheaded Lane Bryant's viral 'I'm No Angel' campaign. And, most significantly of all, Ashley did a TED talk titled 'Plus Size? More Like My Size.'

'The attention focused on plus-size fashion has sky-rocketed in recent months, and Ashley has been at the forefront of that movement,' says Charlie Lankston.

'She has led what many view as a fashion revolution by proving that a woman with curves can achieve success as a supermodel.'

TV/FILM

1.  Jennifer Lawrence

Is there a soul on this planet who doesn't love Jennifer Lawrence? Not only does the star have serious acting chops, her fierce personality and down-to-earth sense of humor make her a captivating presence both on and off-screen.

'This bright young thing is super smart, savvy and she has great taste in friends (see Amy Schumer),' says Dailymail.com Showbiz Editor Natalie Trombetta. 'She's compelling on screen and the kind of person we'd all love to hang out with in real life.'

'It doesn't get hotter than Jennifer Lawrence,' adds Entertainment Tonight host Carly Steel. 'A critical and commercial darling, an Oscar winner and the highest paid female actress, which proves she can open and carry a movie as well as the men.

'Young, with the potential for career longevity, her collaborations with David O. Russell are reminiscent of the great performances of the old Hollywood sirens of the silver screen'

2.  Alicia Vikander

This Swedish ingenue appeared on the scene as if from nowhere, and now, she's everywhere - including a Louis Vuitton ad campaign - and will be the one to watch come awards season in 2016.

'Alicia Vikander is Hollywood It Girl of 2015, with more films opening this year than any of her peers,' says Carly Steel.

'She artfully navigates between critical darlings like Ex Machina and Testament of Youth, studio films (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) and Oscar fare with The Danish Girl. She eclipsed her co-stars and is the surprise stand out of the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals with her star turn in The Danish Girl which is already garnering her a lot of Oscar buzz.'

The 26-year-old has all the qualities to top this list, adds our judge, Nina Tsang: 'She's one part of a celebrity couple (she dates Michael Fassbender), is fast-becoming a fixture on the party scene (she's slated to appear at London and Paris Fashion Weeks and the New York Film Festival in the coming weeks), has two more films to promote before the end of the year and is rumored to be appearing in the next Bourne movie.'

3.  Idris Elba

Since he first came to our attention in The Wire, Idris Elba's star has skyrocketed. His impressive talent as an actor has seen him take roles as diverse as Nelson Mandela in Long Walk to Freedom and the voice of Shere Khan in Disney's upcoming live action version of The Jungle Book.

'Idris Elba is not only gorgeous, but he's a triple threat,' says our judge and actress Skype P Marshall. 'An incredible award-winning international actor, musician, DJ, and a hands-on dad with charisma and a generous heart for humanitarian outreach.'

Indeed, he has an overwhelming army of fans who rushed to his defense when Anthony Horowitz, the author of a new James Bond novel, remarked that Elba was not 'suave' enough and 'too street' to play 007. Horowitz was forced to apologize after a Twitter backlash.

4.  Ruby Rose

When Ruby Rose hit screens in Orange Is The New Black, viewers were instantly captivated. The Australian beauty, who was the face of Maybelline back in her modeling days, put on a scene-stealing performance as Stella in the third season of the hit Netflix show.

But her off-screen image is equally intriguing. From the humor with which she responds to comparisons to Justin Bieber and Angelina Jolie, to her honesty regarding her gender-fluid identity.

Says Skye P Marshall: 'When I think of Ruby Rose, the word "freedom" comes to mind. She is a woman living her truth and will not conform to any "box" in which the industry so desperately wants to place her.'

5.  Emily Ratajkowski

Everything Emily Ratajkowsi touches seems to turn to gold. From her raunchy turn in Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines music video to her Carl's Jr ad, the model-turned-actress lends a sophistication that has landed her serious movie roles.

Ratajkowski has since appeared in Entourage as Adrian Grenier's love interest and opposite Ben Affleck in Gone Girl. Next up is a her first lead in We Are Your Friends with Zac Efron.

'Emily Ratajkowski is one to watch and on the rise,' says Natalie Trombetta.

'She's moving onwards and upwards after Blurred Lines and is now seriously hot property in Hollywood.'

MUSIC

1.  Taylor Swift

From her celebrity friends to her preppy outfits to her irresistibly catchy music, Taylor Swift is the full package. She's the A-list's head girl - practically perfect. We'd probably hate her if she wasn't so nice.

And the industry agrees: Femme, our music category judge, admits that 'two years ago, you could have asked me who she was and I might just have been able to string the words, "country singer, blonde, trouble-trouble-trouble" together. Now I've basically got her poster on my bedroom wall.

'It's a slick and seemingly bulletproof PR machine she is riding but I've never had the impression that there's anyone other than Taylor firmly at the wheel.'

2.  Rihanna

Rihanna may be the celebrity and fashion world's darling, but let's not forget that she makes some fantastic music too. In July, the Recording Industry Association of America announced that she was the first artist to get more than 100 million gold and platinum song certifications.

Collaborations with Kanye and Paul McCartney have pushed it to the next level, and her upcoming role as the main advisor on The Voice will keep her musical talents at the front of everybody's mind.

'Rihanna is SIZZLING hot,' says Dailymail.com Showbiz Editor Natalie Trombetta.

'She's bold, brash and unapologetic. She dances to her own beat and has the whole world mesmerized by her moves and music.'

Producer of our generation: Pharrell Williams is the man with the Midas touch

Producer of our generation: Pharrell Williams is the man with the Midas touch

3.  Pharrell

Pharrell Williams is the man with the Midas touch, says Femme.

'I think he's possibly the producer of our generation. A Pharrell tune, production or collaboration always offers a little bit of light in the otherwise dark tunnel of chart pop.'

His latest single, Freedom, is proving to be yet another hit, and Pharrell has been making the rounds in the spotlight promoting the new song. He recently staged an 'unprecedented' performance as he 'delivered the song from atop The Tonight Show marquee outside 30 Rock and right next to New York's Radio City Music Hall.'

4.  Ed Sheeran

At just 24, Ed Sheeran already commands sell-out shows at Madison Square Garden. And the honor could not be more justly deserved, according to Spotify trends expert Shanon Cook.

'Ed Sheeran deserves all the success in the world,' she says.

'How many other musicians can command an arena-sized audience with just their voice and a guitar? Also, Ed's gorgeous song, Thinking Out Loud, is the most streamed song ever on Spotify.'

Last month NBC released a documentary about his three sold-out shows at London's Wembley Arena. And one gets the sense this is just the beginning...

5.  Justin Bieber

Perhaps the tweens were onto something after all. Justin Bieber won some high praise from our most discerning judges.

'I've never called myself a Belieber, but Justin Bieber is making the best music of his career at the moment,' says Shanon Cook.

'Where Are Ü Now, his collaboration with Diplo and Skrillex, was a global smash over the summer, and his awesome new single What Do You Mean? just broke a Spotify record with 41 million streams in its first week.'

Turning tide? Our experts believe Justin Bieber is making the best music of his career at the moment

And Femme echoes that verdict: 'With his two recent single releases, he seems to be successfully winning over the left-field who usually believe themselves to be above the sellout monotony of mainstream EDM (that's me).

'Bieber certainly makes some strange decisions with regards to the content on his social media channels, and I'm not sure I'd ever want to be trapped in a lift with the man/boy/child, but his choice of surprising collaborations and this adventure from his comfort zone has been one of the musical highlights of 2015.'

FOOD

The only man who could convince us to eat ants: Danish chef René Redzepi's influence extends far beyond Copenhagen

The only man who could convince us to eat ants: Danish chef René Redzepi's influence extends far beyond Copenhagen

1.  René Redzepi

Danish chef René Redzepi's influence extends far beyond Copenhagen, where his celebrated two-Michelin-starred restaurant Noma is based. Eighty per cent of the food he serves is vegetables and a team of foragers hunts down the best local, sustainable ingredients.

And Redzepi's creations are headline-worthy. One appetizer at his Noma Tokyo pop-up featured still-twitching shrimp served with live ants.

Caroline Potter, VP of Corporate and Business Development at OpenTable says: 'Redzepi has put Nordic cuisine on the map - and spread it around the globe with his influence.'

Redzepi recently announced a radical decision to close Noma after a final service on New Year's Eve 2016. The restaurant will reopen in 2017 with a new menu and mission statement, along with a state-of-the-art urban farm.

2.  Josh Tetrick

Hampton Creek founder Josh Tetrick is one of the most innovative minds in food right now. His goal is to replace traditional animal-based ingredients, most notably eggs, with cheaper and more sustainable plant-based options.

His Bill Gates-backed company's first product, an eggless mayo, has won over millions of consumers worldwide - not only with its taste, but also because it is competitively priced and widely available (in Dollar Tree as well as Whole Foods).

In fact Tetrick's brainchild is so successful, the egg and mayonnaise industries are threatened. This year Hellman's attempted to sue the company for calling an eggless product 'mayo' (the suit has since been dropped). The company has since also released egg-free cookie dough and pancake mix.

'From a grain of an idea to taking on Big Food head-first in merely a few years with his plant-based food company Hampton Creek, Josh is showing the world that food can be tasty, healthy and available for everyone in all demographics,' says Susan MacTavish Best, who hosts salons for Hampton Creek.

3.  Jamie Oliver

Jamie Oliver calls himself 'a very strange brand, a celebrity disruptive force,' and the latter is certainly true. The television personality, restaurateur and nutrition activist is transforming the way thousands of Britons and Americans eat by making healthy food more accessible.

Nutrition activist: Jamie Oliver is transforming the way thousands of Britons and Americans eat by making healthy food more accessible

'Jamie has been making cooking approachable and fun for folks of all ages for the past 15 years,' says MacTavish Best. 'He has been outspoken with regards to crappy school meals urging for change, and his nonprofit is teaching kids about food and nutrition. Jamie is also a big supporter of new chefs. Hooray to that!'

Indeed, the US arm of the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation is bringing food education to schools and communities, campaigning for policy changes at a local and national level.

4.  Chrissy Teigen

A Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl is not the typical face of a food movement, but then there's nothing typical about Chrissy Teigen. The supermodel, TV star and social media juggernaut has an evident passion for all things edible, well-documented on her Instagram and Twitter feeds.

'Chrissy Teigen has done amazing things for food, not only in terms of making it fresh and fun and exciting, but also in terms of the way society views food - and those who really enjoy it,' says Charlie Lankston.

Genuine foodie: Teigen pictured enjoying a plate of spaghetti after a Dailymail.com party at Cannes Lions in June (left) and preparing roast chicken at home with epic quantities of butter (right)

'Chrissy has turned the stereotypical view of a model as someone who doesn't eat and avoids unhealthy foods at all costs on its head, documenting her love of all things food-focused on her Instagram account, without shame or embarrassment, where all the world can see it.

'I think she has made a lot of people realize that it's OK to embrace a love of food, no matter what you do or who you are, and it's really refreshing to see.'

5.  Keizo Shimamoto

Keizo Shimamoto's Ramen Burger has been dubbed the 'perfect fusion food dish' by Dailymail.com Femail Editor Charlie Lankston, putting him firmly on the food scene map.

The dish was quickly imitated and much maligned, but the fresh take on an American classic cemented his spot in food culture in 2015.

As Lankston says: 'You only have to take a trip to famed Brooklyn food market Smorgasburg on the weekends and look at the endless line of people waiting for their turn to try the delicious dish to realize what an impact Keizo has had on the food industry.'

WELLNESS

1.  Michelle Obama

The First Lady's mission to inspire America - particularly its youth - to be more active saw her ranked top of the wellness category by several judges.

'How could she not top the list?' said Barry's Bootcamp Master Trainer Noah Neiman. 'Our country is in crisis. We eat horribly, we don't work out, and the cycle will never end unless we look to educating the youth. In order to enact change, those with a powerful voice must speak up. It doesn't get much more powerful than FLOTUS status.'

Mrs Obama's approach makes fitness accessible to all, adds Stephanie Ruhle, anchor and Managing Editor for Bloomberg Television.

'Michelle is keeping it real by helping absolutely everyone build the foundation for a healthy lifestyle,' she says. 'Helping beautiful people up their sexy is cool, but moving the needle for millions and changing the way we behave? That's revolutionary.'

2.  Misty Copeland

The name on everybody's lips right now. Misty Copeland was recently named the first black principal dancer for the American Ballet Theater, but her star was already in the ascendant.

'Misty Copeland is changing the face of the female athlete,' says Stephanie Ruhle.

'I just interviewed her for the launch of her Under Armour Rule Yourself campaign and I was blown away. I love how this tiny prima ballerina became the heavyweight for a brand we associate with jocks and jerseys. Misty's previous campaign ... was their most successful ever with over nine million views to date - take that Tom Brady, Stephen Curry and Jordan Spieth!'

Noah Neiman adds: 'It's hard to argue the impact of someone who is the first of their kind. She has the whole package that the world loves talking about. Her exquisite composure on stage and in the media, her unparalleled skill, and her powerful yet feminine physique all adds up to be not only a tremendous influence, but also a great role model.'

3.  Alonzo Wilson

'If you don't know Tone House, you will, says our judge, Robin Arzon, Head Coach at Peloton Cycle. 'Alonzo is the It boy of fitness right now. This workout is the hardest in NYC. Period.'

Yes, Alonzo Wilson, a former pro football player and model who co-founded Manhattan's Tone House, wants his clients to take their workout to the next level.

'This place is where your trainer goes to train,' reveals Sweaty Betty founder Tamara Hill-Norton, who calls the studio a professional athlete's playground.

'The class workout is based around what a pro athlete would do for a fitness session so the classes are tough,' she warns. 'You might just need to take a fitness test before you decide to go.'

4.  Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice

You may not know the names Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice, but you will almost certainly know the indoor cycling empire that they founded. Since Soul Cycle's launch in 2006, the duo have opened 47 studios across the US - and still, front row seats are as coveted as the front rows at fashion week.

'Say what you will about the SoulCycle method, they changed the landscape of boutique fitness,' says Arzon.

The duo developed their own stationary bike, especially for the high-octane SoulCycle classes and also have a thriving activewear line with new collections released monthly.

5.  Tracy Anderson

We know her best as Gwyneth Paltrow's best friend, but let's not forget that Tracy Anderson has built an impressive fitness empire that delivers serious results.

'Tracy Anderson is a woman that champions women and a legit entrepreneur,' says Stephanie Ruhle.

'I love that her videos don't require major equipment, especially when I'm on assignment and in hotels. Tracy helps people build the ultimate workout regimens or simply squeezing in core moves when and however they can! She's a super-human with the best playlists and hottest moves.'
