No survival skills required! Inside Bear Grylls' new luxurious Battersea Power Station pad complete with creature comforts (and where a penthouse would set you back a wild £21.5m)

  • Bear Grylls to live in pad with wife and three sons - they also own a country home, seaside retreat and houseboat
  • The TV adventurer wants to 'own a bit of history' saying, 'The Battersea Power Station is a project like no other'
  • At the lower end apartments start at £1.32million but the penthouses are on sale for up to £21.5million

He's able to survive in the most treacherous conditions, but Bear Grylls' latest property acquisition in Battersea Power Station proves he's not opposed to enjoying his creature comforts too.

The site is being transformed from its initial incarnation as a coal-fired power station into a development of super-luxurious flats.

The TV adventurer said of his recent purchase: 'The Battersea Power Station is a project like no other - to take a greatly loved historical city landmark and transform it into a world-class icon is unique.'

Grylls, who plans to live in the pad with his wife Shara and three sons, said: 'As a family we didn't just want a run-of-the-mill townhouse or riverside development.

'We were attracted to Battersea Power Station because it was a chance to own a bit of history that we could pass on down through the family.

'We have moored our houseboat barge in Battersea for many years - and are proud to keep that still - but to be able to buy within this landmark building and own that small slice of London history felt like a very special opportunity. It will make a very unique home.'

At the lower end, the plush apartments start at £1.32million for a two-bedroom abode, but the penthouses are on sale for up to £21.5million.

But it's fair to say ex-SAS trooper Grylls - who is now a BAFTA-winning TV host and bestselling author - has the means to stretch the budget.

The developer has declined to comment on which area of the development Bear Grylls has purchased a property in, but given his love for the outdoors, the Battersea Roof Gardens, would be a safe bet.

Each home in the Battersea Roof Garden section of the development has its own winter garden with incredible views and glass enclosures to soak up the sun, which also look out onto the London horizon

Although Grylls usually likes to do a recce of his territory, on this occasion, Grylls has had no such luxury. He visited the site of the power station but had to make his purchase off-plan as the development is not yet complete.

But it's not hard to see why Grylls was wowed on viewing these incredible CGI images and decided to purchase a pad to add to his property portfolio.

The 41-year-old also has a country home in Wiltshire, a seaside escape on a remote island off the coast of Wales as well as a house boat on the Thames.

The crowning jewel of the Roof Gardens development is the roof garden itself, which will be one of the largest in London with views over Battersea Power Station, the river and the cityscape.

The garden will stretch over 255 metres and will include a fitness deck, lookout points, a woodland walk, lounges and a summer kitchen with a communal ‘farm table’ and picnic lawn.

Designed by Foster + Partners, the homes are styled in a subtle 1930s theme and luxury touches include a three-storey entrance lobby, an on-site concierge and a gym.

Despite his love for the outdoors, even Grylls would agree, it beats sleeping in a tent.
