Lovely in lace: Alexa Chung looks every inch the style queen in black and white vintage gown as she joins stars at London Fashion Week party

It wouldn't be a fashion week without Alexa Chung in attendance.

And the British style star certainly proved her place among the fashion elite as she attended a star-studded bash to open this season's London Fashion Week - hosted by Vogue UK editor Alexandra Shulman and the US Ambassador Matthew Barzun and his wife Brooke in the British capital on Friday evening.

The model and TV presenter, 31, stayed true to her vintage, often boho-style aesthetic as she donned a long, sweeping black and white lace dress.

The Victoriana-esque garment, complete with long sleeves and a heavy skirt, flattered her slender figure without being too heavy on her frame, and was nipped in at the waist.

Much of the gorgeous garment included decorative black lace laid over white fabric underneath, and the collar panel added a touch of romanticism to the look, complete with a tied-up bow on the frilly collar.

The leggy beauty showed off her stylish footwear thanks to the skirt's mid-length hemline - she teamed the eye-catching dress with a pair of pointed heels with a delicate strappy lace-up design across the front of the foot.

The eye-catching garment, that would have been a fashion faux pas for many others, was rather fitting for the decadent surroundings of the event, too, at the US Ambassador's 12-acre Winfield House mansion in Regent's Park.

Her mid-length brown and ombre locks were worn in her favourite style: fuss-free and slightly wavy, a touch of casualness about her.

Alexa will no doubt be gracing the many front rows at the London Fashion Week shows in the coming days, so it's no surprise she was at the star-studded soiree on Friday evening as the event kicked off.

She looked to be having a whale of a time as she caught up with her model pal Poppy Delevingne and her husband James Cook, as she posed for silly pictured with the wedded pair.

Showing off her fun side, the writer, journalist and all-round star caused her famous pals to fall into a fit of giggles as she larked around in front of them at the party, which had some impressive guests in attendance, including Victoria Beckham and US Secretary of State John Kerry.

Last week, Alexa was one of the regular faces at New York Fashion Week, but it wasn't all about the front row moments for the style-savvy star: she also released a fashion app that enables users to upload product photographs and create outfits.

Users can follow their favorite brands, and build unique style boards that pair together items they may not have thought to.

And her inspiration for the savvy tech launch? Alicia Silverstone's iconic turn as Beverly Hills rich girl Cher in '90s hit Clueless.

She explained: 'That scene in Clueless where the computer puts an outfit together from Cher’s wardrobe.'

Her showbiz pal, X Factor judge Nick Grimshaw, is already a huge fan.

He took to Instagram to congratulate her on her entrepreneurial: 'Congratulations to Alexa who is this generation’s Tom from MySpace. Can I do the menswear one?'
