Wojciech Szczesny, on loan at Roma from Arsenal, has been ruled out for up to six weeks after dislocating his finger in a collision with Barcelona striker Luis Suarez.

The Poland international suffered the injury in the second half of Wednesday night's Champions League group stage encounter, which ended in a credible 1-1 draw for the Italians.

Suarez, who gained notoriety for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at last year's World Cup, appeared to kick Szczesny in the chest after being denied by the Poland international shortly after the interval.

Szczesny, who is on a season-long loan from Arsenal, was able to get to his feet but was replaced by Morgan De Sanctis due to his injury.

'Medical tests have revealed Wojciech Szczesny dislocated the ring finger in his left hand during this evening's Champions League tie with Catalan side Barcelona,' a statement on the Roma website read.

'The Polish goalkeeper was forced to leave the field after injuring the finger in a challenge with Luis Suarez in the 50th minute of the game.

'He will undergo further tests in the next few days to determine the extent of the injury.'

Szczesny had started all four of the Italian club's matches so far this season.
