Yet Victoria Beckham showed off her more animated side as she attended the official The London Fashion Week Party while looking sensational in a figure-skimming black gown on Friday evening.

The fashion designer, 41, was clearly feeling playful as she chatted and laughed along with long-time friend and fellow fashion designer Matthew Williamson at the prestigious event.

Victoria looked every inch the sartorial frontwoman as she put her best foot forward in a striking yet simple slinky black dress at the evening hosted by Vogue UK editor Alexandra Shulman and the US Ambassador Matthew Barzun and his wife Brooke.

While rubbing shoulders with the creme de la creme of the industry at the American Ambassador's Residence, she was particularly gleeful to see acclaimed designer Matthew.

After giving her pal a huge kiss on the cheek, Victoria seemed to give him a joke telling off as she pointed her fingers towards his face while clutching his shoulder.

For the event, she made sure she put her best sartorial foot forward in a chic and almost floor-skimming black dress, with a ruched curved neckline and delicate spaghetti straps.

Her toned and tanned shoulders and arms were the highlight of the frock, which skimmed neatly over her trim hips before falling loosely over her legs to just above her ankles, allowing her to display her classic black pointed court shoes.

Victoria completed her effortless look with her brunette locks styled into a chic updo with tendrils of her hair curled and framing her face.

She spent time inside the fashion soiree mingling with the Vogue editor, the American Ambassador and his wife, as well as the US Secretary of State John Kerry, but she wasn't the only famous face at the party, held to launch London Fashion Week in style.

Cressida Bonas, Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend - with whom he was seen earlier this week at his 31st birthday celebrations - looked like a tangerine dream, wowing in a tiny bright orange mini-dress.

The designer wrapped up warm in a chic navy coat with colourful panels as she made a stylish appearance at her flagship Dover street store to host an exclusive private event.

The doting parent - who also has sons Romeo, 13, and Cruz, 10, as well as four-year-old daughter Harper with her husband David Beckham - paired her coat with a pair of ripped skinny jeans.

Last Sunday, Victoria unveiled her surfer themed collection, which she dubbed Hawaii Five O, surprising fashion critics by ditching her signature ladylike look for more relaxed vibe.

'I'm not used to using print, but I think it's important to challenge myself,' the star explained. 'I don't want to be a designer where everyone knows what they're going to see.'

'This season was all about bringing a new approach that for me is fresh and liberating,' Beckham explained in her show notes.

'[They are] clothes to be interpreted by the individual and worn with freedom and a carefree attitude.'
