'I had to apologize to the crew': Jimmy Fallon says Justin Bieber left The Tonight Show scrambling when he backed out of sketch at the last minute

Justin Bieber sent the crew of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon scrambling when he backed out of a sketch at the last minute.

Falloon has revealed that the singer decided not to do a comedy sketch when he stopped by the show to perform his single 'What Do You Mean?' on September 2.

'It’s like, I don’t care,' Fallon told Billboard as he graced the cover of the music magazine.

'I mean, I wish they’d told me weeks ago because today’s the day, and now we have to crunch and think of an idea to do.'

Bieber was supposed to do 'something fun' with house band The Roots when he appeared on the show on September 2.

But despite the pop star making an effort to rehabilitate his image, it seems the singer got cold feet at the last minute.

'And I have to apologize to the crew guys who built the set and the wardrobe people and everyone,' said Fallon.

However, the typically upbeat host went on: 'But it’s not what he does. He’s here to sing, so as long as he’s comfortable and it sounds good then we did our job.'

'And if I talk to him and make him funny and make him look good, that’s my job. That’s all I have to do.'

Fallon also revealed to Billboard that U2 singer Bono was the one of the first celebrity to email the Today Show host after he fell and seriously injured his finger in June.

'He said, ‘Welcome to the club, my Irish brother.’ And Edge sent me a thing. He fell too! I mean, it’s insane. I go, ‘Why are we all falling? What the hell is wrong with us?’'

Bono suffered serious injuries during a bike in New York's Central Park in November, breaking his arm in six places, and fracturing his eye socket, hand and shoulder.

And U2 guitarist The Edge fell off a stage in May.

Fallon nearly severed his finger when his wedding ring got caught during a fall.

The chatty host has been in and out of doctor's offices since his June accident, and told the magazine he faces another surgery soon.

'It’s a bummer, but you can’t get depressed,' he said.
