Singer used his 50th birthday as an excuse to snap a picture of the script for his latest project.

The filmmaker apparently has had strong feelings for the classic story of a submarine's crew battling the dangers of the deep since he was a child.

He also assured fans that he would stay true to the story and make it entertaining for everyone.

'I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages!'

While Singer and his writing team Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney are basing their film on the classic adventure book of the same name by Jules Verne, the story is not a novel one for Hollywood.

Disney shot a version in 1954 starring Kirk Douglas as the whaler Ned Lander,James Mason as Captain Nemo and the inimitable Peter Lorre as Conseil.

It seems this will be the latest take on the classic maritime tale, as the similarly named project announced by Disney several years ago, which Fight Club helmer David Fincher was set to direct, never went into production.
