'I have six sisters, I have a daughter, I have a granddaughter': Rocker Jon Stevens says he was left devastated after being accused of assaulting ex-fiancee Jodhi Meares during row

Jon Stevens says he has been left devastated after being accused of assaulting ex-fiancee Jodhi Meares during an explosive row earlier this year, which led to him being charged by police.

During an interview with The Today Show on Friday, the singer told Richard Wilkins that the accusations were 'terrible' and that it was 'ridiculous' he was charged in the first place.

Assault charges against the 53-year-old rocker were later dropped, but the scandal surrounding the incident cost him his place in his band the Dead Daisies.

Jon and Jodhi split in February. Asked whether he still loved his one-time fiancée, he chose not to answer the question, but said: 'She is a great kid, she's a fantastic girl. What can I say?'

The accusations of domestic violence led to Jon being dropped by the group Dead Daisies, as well as cancellations of more than 30 performances, including an Anzac Day show.

'I found out online actually that they [Dead Daisies] were going to Cuba without me. That they'd got a new singer... not to mention that they'd made a new album without me.'

Despite the turmoil of the past few months, Stevens' is keen to put the past behind him and 'live in the moment'.

'The past is done, you can't go back, you can only learn from it.'

Jon also claims he has not been contacted by any of his former bandmates since the scandal.

In February the Police were called to the couple's Point Piper home in Sydney after a domestic incident.

Later, lawyers acting on Jodhi's behalf issued a letter on her behalf warning: 'There is absolutely no history of violence in the relationship between them.

Charges were brought against Stevens but later dropped due to lack of evidence.

It's a case of onwards and upwards for Stevens who has released a new solo album Woman.
