Reznicek, who said Brutus was 'everything to me', is devastated now that he has lost both of his 'guys' after his other 10-year-old dog Maxie was put to sleep due to cancer just last week.

'He was my companion, my buddy,' Reznicek told KHOU. 'For someone to take my dog and decide on their own that I'm not a good parent.

'That I was letting him live and being selfish - that's what the note said - they don't know me.

'And if they do, who are they and what gives them right?'

Reznicek, who had raised Brutus since he was a puppy, said he had asked neighbors and called shelters in search of missing Brutus until he found the typed letter on his car.

He said the group of people who took Brutus let themselves into his home through the backyard and left the front door unlocked.

In the note, they reportedly admitted to breaking in and taking Brutus because he was old and on a lot of medication, according to KHOU.

Brutus, an 80lb-dog, had trouble getting up and walking around due to a bad right hip and was on medication for his arthritis as well as special dog food, supplements and vitamins, according to Reznicek.

The letter from the strangers states, 'This letter is to tell you about your dog. We took your dog and fed Him a can of dog food And then took him to our Vet (a nice old man) on Tues,' Reznicek wrote on Facebook.

'And the vet said he had "No quality of Life" so we had the Vet euthanize him and had him cremated. Shame on you for being so selfish and keeping him alive and in Pain.'

Since the incident, Reznicek has filed a police report and wants those responsible to face criminal charges.

'They Broke into My Home, took My Companion then Paid lots of money to Euthanize and Cremate but wouldn't give their names,' he wrote on Facebook.

'I am totally devastated by this. Brutus was like my child, Raised from a Puppy.'

'I am So Heartbroken that someone would do this and have now Lost Both of My Guys within 5 days and I wasn't even able to Say Goodbye to Brutus,' Reznicek continued.

'I can't even look at his pillow without Crying!'

In the meantime, he said he will try to keep moving forward and will continue calling veterinarian offices to find where Brutus was euthanized in order to get some answers.
