Sir Alex Ferguson enjoys a beer on his return to Old Trafford (not that one!) as legendary Manchester United boss watches ODI between England and Australia

  • Ferguson was almost certainly having a better time than England's batsmen

Free of the pressures of managing Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson appears to be enjoying his retirement as he had a beer with friends while watching the cricket at Old Trafford.

The 73-year-old, who led United to an unprecedented 38 trophies over 27 years at the club, left his position in May, 2013.

Certainly, Ferguson looked to be having a better time than the England batsmen against Australia in the fifth match of the ODI series and toasted with his pint in the warm Lancashire sun.

Since leaving football, Ferguson has released a second autobiography and taken up an ambassadorial role with UEFA.

In April 2014, it was announced that Ferguson would be entering a 'long-term teaching position' at Harvard University, where he would be lecturing on a new course titled 'The Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports'.

With the ODI series poised at 2-2, England have struggled in the fifth match so far. Jason Roy were and Alex Hales were both dismissed for four runs, while Eoin Morgan was forced to retire through injury.

Ben Stokes made an impressive 42, but went out for lbw from Mitchell Marsh's delivery.
