Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger should stop 'crying' after every Chelsea defeat, taunts Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho continued his long-running feud with Arsene Wenger on Saturday night, telling the Arsenal manager to stop ‘crying’ and ‘moaning’ after every defeat against Chelsea.

Wenger slammed referee Mike Dean for sending Gabriel and Santi Cazorla off but not Chelsea striker Diego Costa, who could have seen red after an altercation with Laurent Koscielny.

Wenger described Costa’s behaviour as ‘unacceptable’ but Mourinho defended his controversial forward, highlighting him as Chelsea's best player in the 2-0 win.

Mourinho has lost just once to Wenger in 15 meetings – a 1-0 defeat in the Community Shield in August – and the Chelsea manager told his counterpart to learn how to deal with defeat.

‘I played against Arsenal 12, 15, 18 times, and only once he did not moan,’ Mourinho said. ‘On that day we lost the game, we lost the cup, it was not good for us. We behaved in a fantastic way.

‘No excuses. Not crying. Not moaning. Just Mr Jose Mourinho, my players and Chelsea football club.

‘I have to cope with my defeats. He has to cope with his defeat.’

Costa slapped and squared up to Koscielny during the bruising contest at Stamford Bridge and was niggling at Gabriel before the defender was sent off for reacting.

The Spain striker has a history of clashing with opposition players and Mourinho even likened Costa’s behaviour to that in the Rugby World Cup.

He continued: ’I have played derbies in Portugal, in Spain, in Italy, in England again, and every derby you don’t win without emotional control. It’s a basic thing of the game.

‘I think you should speak about Gabriel Paulista. You should speak about him and his mistake.

‘If you want to speak about Diego Costa with me, it is just to say he played like he has to play. That is why you have full stadiums, you sell to televisions all around the world for millions and millions, because the game has to be played like that.

‘That is why on Sunday I go for what I consider comparable in terms of dedication and passion – New Zealand against Argentina. I love it. Fantastic, Diego. Man of the match for me.

‘The referee was there. The same referee that made every decision of the game. It was the same referee that did not give two penalties clear for us. These are rules of the game.

‘What Gabriel Paulista did to Eden Hazard was something that is allowed in rugby and not in football. In rugby it is fantastic, in football it is a penalty.’
