DESCRIPTION
This photo is of the state Supreme Court Building in Salem, Oregon at 1147 State Street (between Waverly and 12th). It was built in 1914 at a cost of $320,000 and is the oldest building in the Capitol Mall. The exterior is cream terra cotta and the interior finish is marble with tile flooring. There is an ornate stairwell and a larg columned library which is open to the public. A magnificent stained glass skylight in the third floor courtroom has a replica of the Oregon State Seal. The building was desiigned by William C. Knighton, the official State Architect then, who also designed other public and private buildings.
