Hilary Duff is not just a successful actress and singer - she is also a conscientious pet owner.

The 27-year-old star was joined by her three-year-old son, Luca, on Friday as she took her two dogs to visit a veterinary clinic in Studio City, California.

While neither of the pups - French bulldog Beau and Bernese mountain dog Dubois - looked particularly pleased about the visit, it was good that Hilary cared about their health.

Appropriate for an outing that required controlling two animals and a small child, Hilary stuck to casual clothing.

Her blonde hair was worn in a loose ponytail and partially covered by a large, grey, fedora-style hat.

Hilary did wear jewellery - bracelets and earrings - and a little makeup in the form of eyeliner.

For a shirt, the Lizzie McGuire actress stuck to a plain, white T-shirt that hung loosely from her petite frame.

The shirt was partially tucked into the high waistband of Hilary's black jeans, trousers short enough to reveal part of an ankle above grey trainers.

Over one shoulder, Hilary carried a black purse, while her hands were occupied by the dogs' leashes and some paperwork.

No fun: Although Hilary managed to continue to look calm, three-year-old Luca was spotted crying and the dogs looked worried about their medical checks

Hilary managed to keep a calm expression on her face, despite anxious looks from her dogs and apparent tears from Luca.

Even when not keeping track of her family, Hilary has had a busy year.

The single mother - who split from ex Mike Comrie in January 2014 - saw a big revival of her career since the spring, when her new TV show, Younger, premiered.
