Who you gonna call? Melissa McCarthy wears glasses while filming Ghostbusters with co-stars and a special guest

The upcoming Ghostbusters reboot is well underway, and the movie's lead actresses were busy filming outdoor scenes on Saturday morning.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon were all spotted out on the New York City streets in costume.

They were joined for at least part of the day's filming by a special guest - original Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, 69.

Her dark hair pulled into a sensible bun, 45-year-old Melissa had a somewhat authoritative presence in eyeglasses and a pea-green overcoat.

A maroon shirt and charcoal jeans were visible underneath, while heavy-duty black boots finished off the costume.

Kristen, 42, who plays Professor Erin Gilbert in the upcoming film, was a little more casual than Melissa, wearing a white V-neck shirt with dark jeans.

Her hair was straight and loose, coloured an auburn-tinted brown.

31-year-old Kate, meanwhile, wore her hair in a somewhat wild bob - the style worked well with the Saturday Night Live actress' yellow-tinted glasses and all-black attire.

The most colourful of the ladies was 48-year-old Leslie, whose black hair had been styled into numerous braids with some pink highlights.

Casual costumes: All of the women wore very casual, work-oriented clothes, with Melissa being rather academic in glasses and an olive-green trenchcoat

A purple-and-white New York T-shirt was worn under a multi-coloured jacket and with tight-fitting blue jeans.

While no details have been released about Ernie's cameo role in the new Ghostbusters movie, he was smartly dressed in a suit and tie when on the set.

Director Paul Feig, 53, dressed nicely as well in a plaid-patterned suit worn with a purple tie and white dress shirt.

Ghosts are real: Academics Erin and Abby (played by Melissa) cannot get anyone to believe their theory that ghosts are fact instead of fiction until spirits invade Manhattan

In the movie, Kristen and Melissa play Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates - unappreciated academics and authors of a book that insisted ghosts were real.

When ghosts invade Manhattan, the two women team up with writer Jillian Holtzmann (Kate) and subway worker Patty Tolan (Leslie) to save the world from otherworldly forces.

Chris Hemsworth and Andy Garcia will co-star in the film, while two more original Ghostbusters - Dan Akroyd and Bill Murray - are expected to cameo.

One of the year's biggest hits when released in 1984, Ghostbusters earned almost $300 million worldwide and is often considered one of the best comedies of the century.

Ghostbusters will be released on July 15, 2016.
