Ben Affleck might be in the midst of a divorce from wife Jennifer Garner, but that does not mean he is neglecting his children.

The 43-year-old actor proved that once again on Friday when he was spotted picking up daughters Violet, aged nine, and Seraphina, aged six, from school in Santa Monica, California.

Holding the girls' hands as they walked together to their car, Ben looked protective of his girls, even after separating from their 43-year-old mother. He also sweetly carried Seraphina's backpack on his shoulder.

For his simple run to the school, Ben did not bother to dress up and instead wore an olive-green T-shirt that showed off the muscled physique he honed for the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice movie.

Rumpled black jeans and grey trainers completed Ben's outfit, although he also carried Seraphina's backpack over one shoulder.

Salt-and-pepper hair curled atop the Gone Girl star's head, while a matching full beard covered his face.

The girls were still dressed in school clothes, which meant a black T-shirt and matching trousers for Violet and a pale blue dress for Seraphina.

Neither Jennifer nor the girls' younger brother, three-year-old Samuel, were present for the after-school stroll.

Unlike most divorcing couples, Ben and Jennifer have been spotted together on numerous occasions since the announcement they were ending their 10-year marriage early this summer.

Putting up a united front for their children, the celebrity couple attended church on Sunday and had fun with the kids at the Brentwood Farmers Market.

Despite such outings and despite a therapy session Ben and Jennifer attended last week, sources close to the couple were quick to shoot down rumours of a possible reconciliation.

An insider at People dashed hopes that the pair would work it out, claiming: 'There is no reconciliation.'

'They are working with a professional because there are emotions involved and they want to make this transition as easy as possible for their family.'

Meanwhile, a separate source told Radar that while the parents work hard on their joint relationship with their children, 'Jen doesn’t care who Ben dates or hooks up with.'

'She just doesn’t want the kids to be asking any questions about it. There is no chance Jen and Ben will get back together and she finally feels that she deserves to be happy without him.'

The source added, 'Not having to be Ben’s mother has been a huge relief.'

The insider also explained that Jen is not ready to date yet but is happy to be a committed co-parent with Ben, who is a 'great dad.'

Sticking together: While there is reportedly no hope of a reconciliation, Ben and Jennifer both took their kids to church and a farmer's market on Sunday

After the couple announced they were divorcing in June, reports surfaced claiming that Ben was involved with their children's 28-year-old nanny, Christine Ouzounian.

A representative for Ben in a statement released to MailOnline in late July denied the story and said: 'It's garbage.'

His team also told Us Weekly that 'all allegations of a romantic relationship are baseless and untrue.'
