'Class! Style! Go USA!': American golf team enjoys sweet victory over Europe at Solheim cup after furious row leaves female stars from BOTH sides in tears

Solheim Cup row as Suzann Pettersen refuses to concede putt to US rival

Riding a feverish wave of righteous indignation, America pulled off a stunning comeback to win the last five singles matches to turn over Europe and win the Solheim Cup on Sunday. It came after Norway's Suzann Pettersen was the villainess of the piece, perpetrating an act that went so far beyond the bounds of sportsmanship it left her English team mate Charley Hull in tears, bottom left, let alone the opposition. It all centered around the 17th green of a fourballs match held over from Saturday evening, featuring Hull and Pettersen against Brittany Lincicome and rookie Alison Lee. Hull had got the ball rolling with a brilliant birdie at the 16th to square the match. At the 17th Lee had a 12ft birdie putt, which rolled no more than 16 inches past the hole. By the side of the green Hull started walking, in a gesture that golfers everywhere will recognise as the concession of a small putt. All square down the 18th, we thought, as Lee duly scooped her ball up, but then Pettersen stepped in to say the putt had not been conceded. It meant an immediate loss of the hole for the Americans.

Listening intently as they fill in their books, Syrian children are pictured during school lessons (but the tank drawn on the wall is a stark reminder of the conflict)

Syrian children pictured during school lessons in Idlib region

With concentration etched on their faces as they eagerly take notes during a lesson, these are the young Syrian children who continue to attend school despite the ongoing conflict. Sat on rows of wooden desks in a makeshift classroom, the youngsters can be seen listening intently and putting pen to paper as their school day continues as normal in the Idlib province of Syria. The pictures emerged today as a ceasefire came into effect between pro-government forces and Islamist rebels, offering brief respite in the northwest province from the recent intense fighting. While the images appeared to show life continuing as normal for the schoolchildren, the walls of the classroom offered a stark reminder of the bloody conflict which has killed thousands in Syria. A lone drawing of a tank could be seen etched on the bare wall of the classroom, accompanied by a scrawling which translates to: 'whom who kills his people is a traitor'.

Hillary Clinton calls for the government to accept 65,000 Syrians migrants as Kerry announces plans to accept only 15,000

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Sunday that the United States should accept 65,000 refugees from Syria to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis created by the war there.

"We're facing the worst refugee crisis since the end of World War II and I think the United States has to do more," the former secretary of state said Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation." "I would like to see us move from what is a good start with 10,000 to 65,000 and begin immediately to put into place the mechanisms for vetting the people that we would take in."

She said there should be a focus on admitting the most vulnerable, like persecuted religious minorities, or those who had been brutalized, like the Yazidi women.

Clinton also said, "I want the United States to lead the world," and said the United Nations Secretary General should call for a meeting at the upcoming U.N. General Assembly meeting in which countries make specific commitments about to provide money and aid.

Hillary Clinton said Sunday she'd bring 65,000 Syrians into the United States as the refugee crisis worsens. That's more than the 15,000 Kerry pledged today.

Jackie Collins had fling with Marlon Brando at 15 and was chased by Errol Flynn

Jackie Collins, who died this weekend aged 77, had a wild, tumultuous life among some of Hollywood's biggest names. She used these relationships to inspire her well-loved books. Brando, as we shall see, wasn't the only star who chased her when she was just 15, and there was even a blind date she had enjoyed while still a teenager in London with an unnamed 'prince' who turned up to pick her up in a gull-wing Mercedes. Her undeniably wild youth notwithstanding, Collins always insisted she was really quite moralistic and that her amoral fictional characters always got their come-uppance in the end.
