The skit was inspired by Lionel's 1983 music video for Hello, where he pined for the affection of his blind student, who carved out the hit-maker's face out of clay.

During the spoof, Jimmy and Lionel serenaded the soft rock song together while the talk show host dug his hands into a batch of clay.

The video opened inside an artist's studio and captured Jimmy as he donned a large wig while painting a portrait of Lionel.

After Jimmy sang the opening verse of the song, Lionel spun around from the centre of the table and joined him in the hit.

While Lionel began crooning the bittersweet lyrics solo, the comedian at one point appeared melancholy as he looked outside a window.

To the delight of the crowd, the unlikely partners begin to sing the song together.

Both Lionel and the talk show host appeared to be struggling through the skit at certain points, doing their best to contain their laughter.
