Amy Schumer almost cries as she wins her first ever Emmy... and thanks her make-up artist

She may have been fond of her smoky eye make-up - but Amy Schumer very nearly ruined it by shedding some tears.

The comedian looked genuinely moved when her show Inside Amy Schumer landed her her first ever Emmy on Sunday night.

The 34-year-old and her team won the inaugural Outstanding Variety Sketch Series award, which used to be clumped with Variety Talk Series in the one category.

'This show fights for what we believe in,' she warbled, holding back tears. 'We care about this show so much.'

'Oh my god - man we all had to get final draft once they picked up our show,' she joked. 'We didn't own it.'

The first person she thanked was her head writer Jessie Klein, who 'had a baby like ten seconds ago'.

'I almost made a stupid sex talk show that nobody wanted, and she got drunk and told me I had to follow my dream and make my dream show,' she said.

She then went on to thank Comedy Central and 'all the suits who represent me', and everybody who has helped her; but her final and most sincere salutation went to 'this girl who gave me sort of a smokey eye - I really love it.'

Amy was more her usual playful self when she took to the stage alongside fellow Amy - Poehler  - earlier in the evening.

'To get this show started we're here to present the first award of the night,' The Parks and Rec star said.

'Which is good because I have a blackout scheduled for 10pm,' Schumer continued.

Her quotes were even less appropriate on the red carpet before hand, when she told Ryan Seacrest she was keeping cool in the three-figure heat when she quipped that there was a bag of frozen peas hidden inside Amy Schumer.
