Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt stuns in sexy pink and black strappy gown as she joins co-star Laura Carmichael on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards

The Emmy Awards are a chance for those in the TV industry to be recognised for their tireless efforts.

And Joanne Froggatt and Laura Carmichael - some of Britain's leading small-screen stars thanks to their roles on Downton Abbey - certainly did their bit for the team as they truly dazzled on the red carpet at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Leading the way was 35-year-old Joanne, who injected some serious wow-factor to proceedings in her glamorous pale pink and black cut-out dress, that would have left her Downton character Anna blushing.

The petite actress looked divine as she swathed her slender figure in a long dusky pink gown that included a racy missing panel at the front, revealing her to be going without a bra.

Seemingly holding the delicate rosy fabric together were black straps cutting across her midriff, revealing her skin underneath.

As she turned this way and that on the red carpet for the flashbulbs, the pretty star also revealed the back to be covered with sexy straps, cutting across her body.

And it was all topped off with a heavy dose of drama with a long sheer black train falling either side of her, almost acting like a frame for the rest of her impeccable outfit.

The blonde star wore her locks down for the evening's event, in loose waves and secured neatly behind her ear, allowing her features to be seen.

She carried in her hand a simple small black box clutch, while adding nothing else to her Emmys aesthetic apart from a pair of dangling earrings.

Meanwhile Laura, 29 - who portrays Lady Edith Crawley - went for a dark and interesting look on the night.

She looked as pretty as a picture in a black gypsy-style gown covered with a delicate coloural floral design.

The top half of the floor-sweeping dress covered her chest but included dainty little straps over her shoulders so she could flaunt her slim arms.

She wore her golden tresses tied up into a chic updo for the event, with tendrils falling down the sides of her face in soft waves, framing it perfectly.

Laura later attended the HBO Official Emmy After Party and opted to stay in the gown as she partied up a storm with Gwendoline Christie and Alan Cumming.

Joanne was nominated for an Emmy for her role in Downton Abbey, in the Best Supporting Actress In A Drama, but faced tough competition from Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Emilia Clarke, (Game of Thrones), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Uzo Aduba (Orange Is the New Black) and Christine Baranski (The Good Wife).

Downton Abbey, which has just started airing in the UK for its final season, was also nominated in the Outstanding Drama Series category, against Better Call Saul, Game Of Thrones, Homeland, House Of Cards, Mad Men and Orange Is The New Black.

Meanwhile, Joanne has been lamenting the final series of Downton Abbey, as have its millions of dedicated fans across the globe.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine, she said of the period drama coming to an end: 'It's a bit strange. There is an element of grieving, so it's good to start on something else because I don't have much time to think about it.'

She was of course talking about her upcoming role in the new thriller series Dark Angel, in which she potrays the first known British serial killer Mary Ann Cotton, a woman who killed several of her own children and husbands by poisoning them.

Speaking to the magazine's Sally Williams, she also opened up about her feelings about her personal image.

'I quite enjoy the low level of expectation in terms of how I look,' she admitted.

'It's always nice when people meet me and they go, 'Oh my goodness isn't she lovely?' rather than, 'Oh God, she looks awful.' I'm not a classic beauty and I'm quite pleased about that.'
