Ruby Rose misses out on red carpet appearance at 67th annual Emmy Awards after flying to Cape Town for new role in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter 

She's no stranger to red carpet appearances, but Ruby Rose is currently thousands of miles away from what could have been her latest while she shoots her new film. 

The Australian actress is in South African city Cape Town after landing a role in last Resident Evil instalment The Final Chapter. 

But her new acting job means she will miss out on appearing at the 67th annual Emmy Awards, which are currently taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Tweeting from South Africa as the ceremony got underway, the actress sent her best wishes to hr Orange Is The New Black co-stars. 

'Wishing Jenji, Jen, all of the writers, directors, crew and of course my family the cast from all the best at the Emmys,' she wrote.  

Ruby, 29, also shared images of Laura Prepon and her co-stars as they prepared for the annual event on Facebook.

Captioning one such image, she wrote: 'So beautiful, so talented .. Love and luck from South Africa my Angels.'

The rave reviews for her role in the Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, has helped Ruby land her next big gig.

The actress has been announced in the next film in the Resident Evil franchise, The Final Chapter, and is set to star alongside another successful model-turned-actress Milla Jovovich.

All that is known so far about Ruby's character in the sci-fi flick, is that her name will be Abigail and it's understood she will play a pivotal role in the story. 

Ruby - who played Litchfield Penitentiary inmate, Stella Carlin, in the dramedy - will also star alongside Ali Later, Game Of Thrones star Iain Glen and X-Men actor Shawn Roberts.

With production set to begin next month in Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa, the actress seemed to hint at her new role just ahead of the announcement.

The tattooed starlet told fans on Instagram on Saturday that she had just touched down in Cape Town before using the hash-tag 'Resident Evil' alongside a recent magazine shoot shot.

According to Variety magazine, the action horror series will pick up after the events of the fifth film in the franchise, Retribution.

It will see Milla's character, Alice, as 'the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes,

'Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.'

Alice will join forces with her old friends, which could be where Abigail comes into the picture, which will allow Ruby to show off her rough and tumble skills.

The actress has also recently filmed a cameo in sci-fi TV series Dark Matter and could be set to carve out a niche for herself in the genre.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is set for release in cinemas, January 2017.
