'That's not a real profession. They want to be doctors': What Michelle Collins allegedly said AFTER The View apologized for mocking a Miss America nurse - as three MORE companies pull ads

  • Michelle Collins of The View reportedly mocked nurses even after apologizing to Miss America contestant Kelley Johnson
  • The registered nurse was laughed at by the women hosts of The View after she appeared in this year's pageant in scrubs and a stethoscope
  • Guest host Nicole Arbour said Collins said of nurses off air on Wednesday: 'Yeah, that's not a real profession. They want to be doctors'
  • But a spokesperson for The View told DailyMail.com: 'Michelle Collins and Nicole Arbour were never backstage at the same time at The View
  • The spokesperson also called Arbour's claims 'completely false'
  • Three more major companies have announced they are pulling ads from The View - Snuggle, Party City and McCormick - bringing the total to five
  • Johnson appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week and said the goal of her speech on Miss America was to give other nurses voices
  • She also shared on Facebook how she spent the year volunteering at a middle school with underprivileged children

Michelle Collins of The View reportedly joked about nurses backstage at the show on Wednesday even after apologizing on air to the Miss America contestant who was mocked by the ladies after she wore her scrubs and a stethoscope on stage during last weekend's competition.

Kelley Johnson of Colorado delivered a monologue about being a nurse on Sunday - and the next day on The View hosts Joy Behar and Michelle Collins  made fun of her speech and outfit.

The program has since lost five major advertisers - Johnson & Johnson, Eggland's Best, Party City, Snuggle and McCormick - and is now facing another possible battle after claims made by guest host Nicole Arbour.

Arbour, who appeared on the show Wednesday when the women apologized, claims that Collins said of nurses when the show was not on the air; 'Yeah, that's not a real profession. They want to be doctors.'

But a spokesperson for the show called Arbour's claims 'completely false.'

Appearing on Opie and Jim Norton, Arbour said: 'Backstage, I heard the girls being like, "Oh yeah, our nurse jokes didn't go over well so we have to apologize because they're tweeting us too much."

'And I'm like, "you all are pu**ies." See, I can sit in my jokes and be like, yeah, I made them, I think it's funny. Whatever. But they go on there and make a fake apology. When the cameras weren't rolling, Michelle was like "Yeah, that's not a real profession. They want to be doctors."'

Collins said on the show this week in the wake of the controversy;  'You know, as a result of this situation, I didn't understand the challenges facing nurses, the need to improve how people view and appreciate what you do and I'll be honest I think the comments made Monday kind of played into that and I'm sorry about that.'

A spokesperson for The View told DailyMail.com: 'Michelle Collins and Nicole Arbour were never backstage at the same time at The View. Michelle was on the stage from the start of the show until after the show ended. Nicole was brought down to the backstage area for her segment after the show started.'

This is all happening in just the second week of the show's new season - and Collins' second week as a host.

The night of the pageant Collins also reportedly posted tweets about Johsnon, and after getting backlash from nurses on social media wrote; 'I mean it is a little funny the hidden anger you nurses possess.'

She would later delete the tweet but not before some Twitter users took screen grabs and then reposted them.

'Thank you for expressing your concerns. Like you, we also value and admire nurses, so we have paused advertising on the daytime television show in question,' said McCormick in a post on their Facebook as to why they decided to pull their ads from the show.

Snuggle wrote; 'In placing our advertising for Snuggle we choose time slots, (and not programs), during which to run our spots; so the airing of an advertisement should not be interpreted as brand sponsorship or endorsement of any program or its content.

'As a supporter of nurses, we disagree with the comments made on daytime television and have paused our advertising for that program.

'Please join us in thanking and celebrating nurses for the critical role they play in our healthcare system.'

Party City said on their Facebook page; 'In response to recent comments made on The View, Party City has decided to pause its advertising accordingly.'

When asked about how these companies pulling their ads might impact the program, a spokesperson for the show said they could not offer comment on the situation with advertisers

Johnson meanwhile gave her own interview about how proud she is to be a nurse.

'I am a nurse and that's my talent – taking care of people, caring about other people, and so I wanted to give the nurses that don't have that voice that voice and that recognition of just somebody going up there and being a little bit different and unique,' Johnson said of her monologue during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this week.

She later added; 'And I just thought, you know, I want to go up there and I want to be authentic and I want to be Kelley, and if I'm ever going to win Miss America or win Miss Colorado I want to do it being myself, and I'm a nurse.'

On The View Monday Behar went after Kelley's outfit and decision to wear a stethoscope, while Collins poked fun at her monologue.

There was an immediate backlash not just from nurses but the public in general, which led to Johnson & Johnson and Eggland's Best announcing that they were cutting ties with the program - the first two companies to do so.

Behar later apologized on Wednesday, saying; 'I was just not paying attention. I didn't know she was a nurse. I'm used to seeing them in gowns and bathing suits. It's not like I was trying to be funny. It was just stupid and inattentive on my part.'

Then, on Friday, they had nurses from NYU College of Nursing on the program.

'Sometimes we don’t feel like we’re the most respected,' one of the nurses told Behar.

'But the truth is, there are countless heroic nurses and countless Kelley Johnsons that are impacting lives every minute of every day.'

'YOU PICKED THE WRONG PROFESSION TO MESS WITH': NURSES HIT BACK AT THE VIEW ON TWITTER

Matthew Stephany said: 'It takes absolutely no talent to host #TheView. I would love to see those ladies last 15 minutes in the ICU.'

Another nurse tweeted: 'Apparently @michcoll is now calling us 'Dr. Wannabes'... We are the eyes, ears and often hands of MDs but wannabes? #nursesunite.'

While one Twitter user said: 'I am a Nurse, and I am proud of my profession. I do way more than 'taking the doctors stethoscope'#nursesunite #NursesShareYourStethoscopes.'

Nicole Brown said: 'Expecting @TheView @JoyVBehar @michcoll to apologize to the 3.4 million nurses in the U.S. for your insulting comments #nursesunite.'

One Twitter user mocked Behar, posting: 'Doctor, can I borrow your stethoscope? SAID NO NURSE EVER! #nursesunite #TheView.'

While Isra Hashmi  tweeted at the hosts: 'There are 3 million nurses in America. You picked the wrong profession to mess with.'

As for Johnson, she also spent this year volunteering as a middle school nurse for underprivileged children she recently revealed on Facebook.

She even shared a photo of herself in her scrubs at work, writing; 'Here is a picture of me working as a nurse, as my special project this year was being the volunteer school nurse at a local underprivileged middle school for 35 hours a month. Here's my tip: volunteer for a cause that means something to you.

'The joy on your face when you're helping with a movement you believe in is the encouragement that others need in order to follow your example.

'I'm passionate about taking care of people, and I was a better school nurse because I truly enjoyed every moment caring for those children and educating their families.

'Love people, and always remember that volunteering is powerful.'
