Dyson looks to Apple for inspiration as it prepares for London shop opening

Dyson is planning to open its first shop in the UK in an attempt to replicate the success of Apple’s stores.

The maker of bagless and cordless vacuum cleaners is expected to open its doors opposite the upmarket Selfridges store on London’s Oxford Street by Christmas, according to Retail Week.

Dyson, which sells its products in more than 70 countries and opened its first Tokyo store in April, plans to open shops around the world. The firm is owned and controlled by founder Sir James Dyson and his family.

He sold his first vacuum cleaners in Japan and opened a factory and research centre in the Cotswolds in 1993.

Earlier this month Dyson reported a 13 per cent rise in annual profit to £367million and a 10 per cent rise in sales to £1.38billion.

A spokesman said: ‘We are looking at environments, like our Tokyo space, that allow us to explain our technology and hopefully enthuse people about science and engineering too.’
