Fans of the show have been waiting for this moment since Penny and Leonard first got together.

And now the couple are finally going to tie the knot.

Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting took to Instagram on Monday ahead of the pair's wedding airing with a photo of herself dressed in her wedding finery as Penny.

She can be seen standing next to Leonard, played by her co-star, Johnny Galecki,in what appears to be a chapel.

The 29-year-old captioned the shot: 'I mean it when I say, I've waited for this moment since the pilot! Nine years in the making!!'

The couple will be seen tying the knot in the CBS show on Monday.

Penny and Leonard have been having an on again off again romance for eight seasons on the much loved comedy series.

Many thought it would not come to pass after Dr Hofstader's confession last season about sharing a kiss with a woman when he was at sea.

However in an interview with TVLine, showrunner Steve Molaro dispelled all doubts, revealing that the couple were definitely going through with the ceremony.

The helmer added: 'We’re nine years in and we want to keep things moving forward, as well as exciting and scary and fun.'

Long time coming: Many thought their might not walk down the aisle after Leonard confessed to kissing another woman last season

Since the on-screen couple had no time to prepare for the wedding before jetting off to Las Vegas to get hitched, Penny is wearing a simple, short pink dress with black shoulder straps, and Leonard has on a simple suit.

However she the short haired blonde can be seen in a classic white veil and looks to be carrying a dress-matching bouquet of pink flowers.

As for Sheldon and Amy, there was no indication on whether that couple would figure out their feelings and reunite.

No time: The nuptials are a last minute affair on the show, when the couple run off to Las Vegas

A video teaser which was released also reveals the wedding looks like it will be a hilarious affair.

Meanwhile in an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Kaley, who married Ryan Sweeting in 2013 on New Years Eve, revealed what it was like working with her ex boyfriend on the show.

Kaley said: 'We ended it five years ago and we have actually both moved on.

'Johnny is actually one of my best friends - it is a situation that ended well I understand that sometimes it doesn't.

Kaley added: 'Ryan loves him, Johnny loves him. He is one of my best friends.'
