Zac Posen's mystery guest revealed! Designer hits Emmys with first-timer Naomi Campbell after teasing about his 'fabulous date' during unveiling of new handbag line

  • The 34-year-old designer walked the red carpet at tonight's Emmy Awards with the supermodel for her first-ever appearance at the show
  • He has previously accompanied fellow Project Runway star Heidi Klum to the awards
  • He unveiled his latest line of handbags for his ZAC Zac Posen line - which has doubled in sales every year - at the Coterie trade show in New York Saturday

Having created some of the stars' favorite red carpet looks, it's no surprise that Zac Posen is able to snag the best in A-listers to be his arm candy at the Emmy Awards.

It's been a busy weekend for the 34-year-old designer, who just unveiled the latest collection for his more-affordable ZAC Zac Posen line at the Coterie trade fair in New York City - a day before he hit the red carpet at the Emmys, among several stars modelling his wares.

And one of those stars was the designer's date, supermodel Naomi Campbell, whose attendance Zac had been keeping under wraps  - only previously revealing that his guest will be making her first ever appearance at the awards.

'I have a really fabulous date who will be making her Emmy debut!' he told Daily Mail Online during his appearance at the Coterie yesterday.

The designer was similarly tight-lipped about who else may be wearing his designs on the red carpet, saying: 'We have a few ladies who are in their pieces, but there are still pieces being sent out today! It's always a huge honor when anybody wears it, but you never know until they step out onto the carpet!'

But tonight, all was revealed as stars including Modern Family's Sarah Hyland who stunned in a maroon off-the-shoulder piece and comedienne Amy Schumer who wore a teal strapless gown from the designer. Tracee Ellis Ross, Diana Ross’s daughter, was also sporting one of his works.

Last year the designer appeared on the arm of his Project Runway costar, supermodel Heidi Klum, who was wearing one of his designs, a stunning coral-colored gown.

This year, the pair's reality program has been nominated for four Emmy Awards - including outstanding reality competition program, outstanding host for a reality or reality competition program, outstanding cinematography for reality programming and outstanding picture editing for reality programming - more than ever before.

Last week, the TV star took over Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall for New York Fashion Week on Monday to show his spring/summer 2016 in front of many of his red carpet loyalists: Christina Hendricks, Jennifer Hudson, and Amy Schumer among them.

But the front row was not what stole the show.

For the first time, a beautiful selection of breezy cotton sundresses, which the designer described as a 'new attitude' for the eveningwear-heavy brand, put daywear comfort ahead of after-dark dressing.

The new bags for Zac's Spring 2016 ZAC Zac Posen line seem to be following suit. 'It's more nine-to-five,' he said. 'It has all the signatures in the cut of the clothing, but it's real sporstwear and it really harks into something that I thought was missing in the market. Seasonal bags that won't go out of season necessarily, but are in trend and fun.'

The bags feature practical, neutral tones, as well as a series of black and white products - many given a playful edge with the inclusion of frills and flower-shaped leather punch-outs. He describes the general feel of the line as taking from 'the LA trends that move into more tech world, and then more into the 1960s Beverly Hills nostalgia.'

As with many of his other recent collections, Zac is quick to emphasize the role of social media in his designs, saying that: 'With social media, you have that opportunity to create your own self as a style icon, as a professional, and I wanted to create a wardrobe for that.

'I think that it is one of the greatest attributes of this amazing new universe and global dialogue that we're having. You are able to create your [style] and how you present yourself and that in turn brings out your individual personality.'

He added: 'I'm all about individual character. It's never about trying to be something you're not. It's about owning who you are, loving who you are and then presenting yourself and entering the world with that joy.'

The designer previously played with a more direct aesthetic influence from social media with a line of clothing earlier this summer that featured imagery taken from photos of food posted to Instagram by the designer himself.
