Unity Bloc Can No Longer Work in Unity

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The guest of the Azdak club of the Constitutional Right Union on October 14 was member of the Parliament’s Right & Unity faction Hamlet Haroutiunian–who called the latest political developmen’s in and around the National Assembly "a political farce". Pointing out that if the crisis continues it may result in the Parliament’s dissolution–Hamlet Haroutiunian expressed the opinion that "after October 27 this situation was sure to be created–sooner or later". According to him–the main responsibility for the crisis lies within the Unity bloc–the other political forces of the Parliament spared no effort for the National Assembly to work in its regular way after October 27.

Stating that the People’s Party of Armenia and the Republican Party of Armenia–guided by "ambitious sectional interests"–do not carry out the directions left by Karen Demirchian and Vazgen Sargssian. Hamlet Haroutiunian said that "unlike PPA–which has some traditions to which it remains true–RPA doesn’t resemble a party at all."

Haroutiunian believes "there are only two classic parties in Armenia – the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the Communist Party". Being sure that the Unity bloc can no longer work jointly–Hamlet Haroutiunian also believes the Parliament’s dissolution cannot be viewed as a useful step for society–for "if the National Assembly is dissolved without reforms in the Constitution effected and without new Election legislation adopted–than the new Parliament will have the same picture with several names changed".

Regarding the Armenian mass media publications about the possible adoption of the Armenian Genocide resolution by the House of Representatives of the US Congress–the speaker pointed out that he thought some mass media’s campaign against the resolution to be immoral. "Those who are speaking against the Genocide resolution in Armenia now–trying to introduce the ARF actions with humor–scaring us with Turkish phantoms–those are the very people who used to persuade us that it was impossible to defeat Azerbaijan which had a population of 7 million," the member of the National Assembly emphasized.

Expressing the opinion that the Jewish Renaissance started with the international recognition of the Holocaust–the guest of the Azdak club stated: "In issues concerning Armenian blood–i.e. Armenian Cause–Armenian Genocide–Karabakh–no personal–group–or party attitude should be allowed."
