The prize recognises 21 initiatives that are making efforts to reduce poverty and protect nature amid climate change.

The winners each receive $10,000 and are able to take part in a two-week community summit during the UN’s Paris conference, where they will be presented their awards during a star-studded gala.

According to the United Nations News Centre, Alec applauded the ‘remarkable’ selection of winners, adding that the ‘world is in awe of their leadership and bravery’.

Alec and Hilaria married in June 2012 after one year of dating. As well as daughter Carmen, they are parents to three-month-old son Rafael.

The 30 Rock star was previously married to Kim Basinger from 1993 until 2002. They have 19-year-old daughter Ireland together.

Meanwhile, The Real Deal reported on Monday that Alec has sold a New York apartment for a cool $2.1million.

The actor still owns two other units in the building, one of which is a penthouse that he bought in 2011 for $12.5million, while the other apartment is listed under Hilaria’s name.
