Jennifer Garner looks tense while Ben Affleck drives her around Los Angeles... as estranged couple continue to put on united front

Jennifer Garner looked downcast and upset as she sat in the passenger seat of a car being driven by Ben Affleck in Los Angeles on Monday.

The estranged couple, who are both back in the city after completing film projects, were spotted in their Mercedes SUV.

Jennifer, 43, seemed to bite her lip and furrow her brow as if worried about something while Ben, also 43, kept a poker face as he stared straight ahead and focused on driving.

In photos taken of them during the outing, it sometimes looked as if neither was speaking to the other.

Since announcing they were splitting almost three months ago, the two Hollywood stars have still managed to play the role of happy family for the sake of their three children: Violet, nine, Seraphina, six, and Samuel, three.

But the efforts to maintain close contact with each other are likely tough given they live their lives in the celebrity spotlight.

Later in the day on Monday, Jen was seen collecting son Samuel from an art class and still looked as if she had the weight of the world on her shoulders.

The 43-year-old's hair appeared stringy and unwashed and she seemed lost in thought as she walked hand-in-hand with her little boy.

She wore jeans and a t-shirt while Samuel was color-coordinated in blue shirt, shorts, socks and sneakers.
