With his vast fortune James Packer can afford the best of everything – but it would seem his spending habits do not extend to his wardrobe.

Indeed, the casino mogul – worth an estimated $4.5 billion – sported a tried and tested ensemble during a day out in New York City on Monday.

Packer, 48, was a familiar sight in his favourite polo shirt, teamed with yet another pair of shapeless, baggy chinos as he enjoyed his solitary stroll.

The Australian businessman added to his look with staid grey jacket, while conventional black shoes rounded things off.

But despite his sober appearance Packer had a spring in his step – and it had nothing to do with current romantic interest Mariah Carey.

The Sydney born billionaire has just seen new film Black Mass, on which he worked as executive producer, gross $8.8 million during its opening day in US cinemas, win a collective $24 million from worldwide ticket sales and earn a string of positive reviews.

The mogul was last seen wearing an identical outfit as he listened to music while strolling the sidewalk during a day out in New York on September 15. 

His latest spate of appearances come just weeks after his relationship with soul diva Mariah went public. 

The pair had a very public unveiling as a couple when they enjoyed a Mediterranean trip several months ago.

They spent time together sailing around the Balearic Islands, including Ibiza and Formentera, on Packer's super yacht Artic P.

He recently told News Corp Australia: 'Mariah is just incredible, amazing she really is...She’s a genius'.

'Who else is there? There is Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Not Madonna...Those three can sing five octaves...'
