'Take a picture of that!' Ricky Gervais sobs as he pretends to win an award while presenting at 2015 Primetime Emmys

He has received two Primetime Emmys and numerous nominations throughout his illustrious career.

But knowing he probably hadn't taken a gong home this time round, Ricky Gervais had a little fun when he took to the stage to present at Sunday's 67th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The 54-year-old former Office star decided that being pictured with an Emmy was just as good as receiving one - and so proceeded to act out a victory for hilarious effect.

As he took to the stage, he declared 'Back again!'

'To lose another one. Go on. I haven't lost yet. Still hope... there's no hope.'

The actor then pointed out that 'no one remembers who wins anyway' before joking: 'In a few days time, people will see a picture of me up here and they'll go, "Well, he won then,"'

'Nobody remembers!' The 54-year-old told the audience that if he's pictured with an award then people will just assume he won

And with that he requested an assistant backstage hand him Emmy, saying 'Where's the Emmy girl? Can I get an Emmy?'

'So take a picture of that,' Gervais quipped as he raised the golden statuette in the air.

'Tweet that, and, uh, Bob's your uncle. Right.'

Naturally, the former Extras star made the appropriate faces, etched with emotion and fake tears as he indulged in his moment in the spotlight.
