It's the celebrity break-up we never saw coming. Yes, our hearts broke a little too when we learned that Kermit and Miss Piggy were no more.
Now the pair face that dreaded scenario of the office romance gone wrong - or in Kermit's words, 'a bacon-wrapped hell on Earth.' We'll see the drama unravel in The Muppets, which premieres Tuesday September 22 at 8|7c on ABC.
But what is the best way to save face in the workplace after the love has gone and the relationship is over?
Happier times: Miss Piggy and Kermit pictured at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2004. The couple called time on their relationship last month
While the competitive former couple flaunt new relationships in each other's faces, we spoke to Dr Paulette Kouffman Sherman, psychologist and author of Dating From The Inside Out, who has six tips for the rest of us on how to navigate those murky waters.
1. Be professional
We'd all love to have Miss Piggy's access to handsome A-list men for when an ex drops by to beg a favor. But, Dr Koufmann Sherman advises, don't let your personal troubles interfere with your job responsibilities and don't discuss your relationship issues at work.
2. Don't talk about your ex at work
It's pretty unavoidable for Kermit to avoid talking about his ex at work. He is an executive producer, while Miss Piggy is the on-camera star.
But no matter how tight your work family, Kermit needs to draw a boundary and instead talk to family and friends outside of work or a therapist.
3. Be polite and friendly
Even if your smile is through gritted teeth, you don't want to create a hostile work environment for the two of you or anyone else.
We see Kermit and Miss Piggy break the ice - but they're still walking on eggshells with each other.
And while we'd all like to channel Miss Piggy's diva persona at times, Dr Koufmann Sherman says the sooner you can be civil, the easier it will be to move forward.
Moving on: Miss Piggy must deal with the daily horror of watching her ex, Kermit, flirt with his new workplace flame Denise, who is constantly on set in her role as Head of Marketing for ABC
4. Keep your personal life separate
Don't discuss who you are dating next with your ex at work. Just wish them well and maintain your professionalism, says Dr Koufmann Sherman.
It seems that when it comes to the Muppets, however, there is no distinction between personal and private lives.
Kermit certainly has not learned from his mistake in dating a co-worker in Miss Piggy, repeating the behavior by starting up with Denise.
'What can I say, I have a thing for pigs,' he sighs.
5. Keep emotions out of the office
If you get really sad and need to cry, take a walk in the park or go to lunch with a friend. It's good to leave the office and have time to yourself during this transition, says Dr Koufmann Sherman.
Or make like Miss Piggy and hit Trader Joe's for a couple of tubes of cookie dough and a bottle of white burgundy.
If it's too close for comfort to spend so much time with your ex, try to find moments of alone time to compose yourself.
6. Put a few alternatives on speed dial
If you are used to talking with your ex on the phone three times a day and seeing them at work, this might be a hard habit to break. If you have news, call your friend or mom instead.
Unless you are dating Josh Groban, like Miss Piggy, a few episodes in. The more famous the celebrity, the more entitled you are to brag.
If not, Dr Koufmann Sherman advises that you keep busy and start to diversify. Take a class after work or do something new with your time to distract yourself. It may take a little while to adjust to the 'new normal'.
