Crown Princess Mary stepped out in Copenhagen on Friday to present prizes at a University competition - and she proved a winner in the fashion stakes herself.

Rarely one to put a sartorial step wrong, Mary arrived looking as elegant and fashion-forward as ever, choosing on this occasion to forgo her usual chic dress for a striking suit.

The Australian-born royal looked chic in her slim-fitting white ensemble consisting of stark white trousers, a white camisole and cream blazer with a satin neckline.

The trio's winning idea, VesaliusMed, is a new method of diagnosing bladder cancer by testing urine for abnormal cells rather than blood - a more accurate, faster, and also cheaper method if diagnosing the disease.

The Danish royal was presented with a bouquet of flowers upon arrival at the venue, before taking to the stage to present the VesaliusMed inventors with their trophy.

While Mary played the princess role perfectly at the prize-giving ceremony, it was an entirely different story later that same day, when she ditched her heels for army boots.

Participating in the Danish Home Guard's field exercise 'Svend Gonge' on Friday, the future Queen dressed in their traditional green uniform along with 500 other members in the depths of the woods on the island of Falster.

Following the Crown Princess' joining of voluntary military organisation the Home Guard in 2008, she now boasts the title of first lieutenant after being promoted on the day.
