William Gallas has accused team-mates Emmanuel Adebayor and Nicklas Bendtner of losing the plot after they had a bust-up on the pitch during Arsenal's humiliating Carling Cup semi-final defeat to Tottenham.

The Arsenal captain had to pull the two players apart after Adebayor appeared to push Bendtner in the face just before Arsenal took a free-kick nine minutes from the end.

Referee Howard Webb also had words with the duo and there were reports that

Adebayor had to be restrained in the tunnel after Spurs secured an emphatic

5-1 win to go through to the final 6-2 on aggregate and end a 21-game run

without a win against their bitter rivals.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was unaware of any problems but, speaking about the clash on the pitch, Gallas said: "They know they have made a mistake and they will have to explain to the boss why they did that.

"I think everyone was disappointed about the score. They are both young and nervous but they have to understand. We lost our calm."

The FA may now want to take a look at the television footage to see if any charges should be brought.

It capped a night of woe for Arsenal, who suffered their first defeat against their local rivals for nine years.

Gallas admits a lot of the team's young players couldn't handle the big occasion and believes it is vital Arsenal bounce back against Newcastle in the FA Cup fourth round at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

He added: "It was a big lesson for the young players. During the warm-up I said to them it would be difficult because Spurs have not beaten us for so long.

"All the young boys wanted to go to Wembley and I know it is difficult to accept. Sometimes it is difficult to be calm and it is not easy for some players. We were too nervous and have to learn.

"The fans are upset and we are upset, but we have to accept it. Now

we have to forget this game.

"We have to be strong because Newcastle have a new manager and they want a result at the Emirates. But for us we have to win that game because we have some ambition."
