West Ham 'Boys of 86' prove to be lucky omens as they attend win over Newcastle

West Ham's 'Boys of 86' proved to be lucky omens for their former team as they witnessed Slaven Bilic's side ease to a 2-0 victory against Newcastle.

The likes of Phil Parkes, Ray Stewart, Tony Cottee and Frank McAvennie were paraded pitchside during the half-time interval of the Barclays Premier League clash at Upton Park.

'The Boys of 86' were part of the side which helped West Ham claim an impressive third spot finish in the old First Division during the 1985-86 season.

The Hammers, who were managed by John Lyall, finished above Manchester United in what has often been described as the club's greatest ever season.

Cottee, McAvennie and Co picked a good game to attend as Dimitri Payet scored a brace to ensure the east London outfit claimed all three points at Upton Park.

The Frenchman opened the scoring in the ninth minute before doubling his side's lead shortly after the half-time interval.

Bilic, whose side moved up to fifth in the Premier League, will be hoping the Hammers can replicate the feat set by the 'Boys of 86' ahead of West Ham's move to the Olympic Stadium next summer.
