'I was early stage and what the beautiful thing is about early stage cancer…is it gives you every option in the world, and that is what I took,' Lee Told Roberts of her diagnosis.

'My doctors have said that I am cancer free and that I am ready to go.'

Lee announced she had been diagnosed with cancer in an interview with Roberts earlier this year shortly before she underwent her double mastectomy in May.

Things seemed to be going well for Lee, until this past August when she was rushed to the hospital with an unknown complication from the surgery.

Since then she has been on the path to recovery, aided by the support of her longtime boyfriend, Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Most of her interview was about early detection, and the importance of aggressively battling the disease right away.

'Why we would consider negotiating with cancer is beyond me,' said Lee.

'It’s like a terrorist that lives inside your body and we’re going to wait and see what it does? We know what it’s going to do.'

She went on to say: 'The researchers and the doctors and the nurses and the other warriors, not just breast cancer for all cancer, that came before us and that sacrificed their lives so that we could have early detection.

'It’s only respectful to ourselves and to their work and what they gave up for us to get our tushies in there and get it diagnosed and then cut it out and take care of it.'

Silver liningL Lee also revealed that the pink gown she wore for her recent appearance at the Emmys (above) was something she had been waiting years to wear, but could not because her breasts were too large.

Lee also revealed that the pink gown she wore for her recent appearance at the Emmy Awards on Sunday - a vintage Thierry Mugler from the 1970s - was something she had been waiting years to wear, but could not because her breasts were too large.

'I couldn’t wear it because I was a little bit too big on top, then I turned my mess, as you say, into my message and I got to wear that plunging dress,' Lee Joked with Roberts.

She then spent some time talking about the stigma attached to having a double mastectomy, one that she hopes many women can get over in order to protect their health and possibly save their lives.

'I just want to say it doesn’t matter if you’re a DD, which I was, or an A, which I am. Women are not just about their boobs which is a statement I was making when I wore that dress,' she said.

Lee will be continuing to get her message out over the next few weeks, and appearing on Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday to talk more about her journey.
