The sweet smell of sultriness: Marc Jacobs stars with Adriana Lima in steamy ad campaign for his new perfume

  • In the October edition of Elle, the designer reveals that Decadence is a radical departure from his 'sweet and innocent' signature fragrance Daisy
  • He says that he chose Lima because she embodied an 'almost squirmy' sexiness reminiscent of Elizabeth Taylor

Mark Jacobs has lifted the lid on the creative process behind his new fragrance - and also shared some sexy shots of himself starring in the new campaign.

The designer discussed his new fragrance Decadence, and how he was inspired by Victoria's Secret Angel Adriana Lima, in the October issue of Elle

'My idea of sex appeal or sultriness—it’s putting it on, deciding to exercise that part of one’s psyche or nature; it’s not a vulgarity.

Go for gothic glam in a sheer maxi dress like Adriana

Marc Jacobs made a rare appearance in Elle magazine with his muse, Adriana Lima, in a racy snap to promote his new fragrance, Decadence.

The Brazilian bombshell donned a dress from the American designer's Fall 2015 collection. The sheer maxi featured a sequin design along the waistline and hem which the Victoria's Secret model wore with nothing but a lacy bra and hotpants underneath for a risque look.

I’ve always shied away from in-your-face,' he said. 'I still use the word girl rather than woman.'

He also admitted that Decadence is a far cry from his signature fragrance, Daisy. 'Daisy was really evocative of this blue-sky freshness, innocence, sweet naïveté. We wanted to come up with something that told a different story,' he said.

Jacobs said that, to him, indulgent luxury is a state of mind, and does not have to be limited to a single location or span of time.

'"Indulgent” can be sitting on the floor and eating cherries and drinking champagne. Or being in an evening gown, sitting on the curb and drinking a beer out of a paper bag,' he said.

'I guess with me there’s always that offhanded—the word playful sounds too sweet—but there’s some - thing left of center. A charming sense of decadence rather than a dark side of it.'

'I wanted this Liz Taylor–esque, almost squirmy sex appeal, this sultriness, and Adriana does give that. It’s a spirit that I’d like to believe exists in everybody,' he explained. 'How people turn it on and how they see it, that’s up to them.'

Even the Decadence packaging offers a new twist on portable perfume: The bottle, decorated with deep green python print, has a gold chain so that wearers can carry it like a purse.
